TOM- Presentation If the .war file extraction failed during installation, some consoles, such as 10.0.00
12174 Server Operations Management or Central Monitoring Administration might fail to
launch and will display a 404 error message.

Workaround: From the <installation directory>\truesightpserver\modules\

tomcat\webapps folder, delete the folder that corresponds to the application
that failed to launch. For example, delete the admin folder for Central
Monitoring Administration.

The folder is automatically recreated after a few moments.

TOM- App Visibility After you uninstall the App Visibility agent for .NET from a computer with a 10.0.00
11844 Windows 2012 operating system, Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (
x86) is not removed from the registry.

Workaround: From the Windows Control Panel, Programs and Features,

uninstall Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86).

TOM- Presentation On pure IPv6 Windows environments, the TrueSight Presentation Server 10.0.00
2732 Server installation fails with a GetIpAddrTable error message. Dual-stack
environments are not affected.

TOM- App Visibility If you use a Virtual Network Computing (VNC) system on some Linux platforms 10.0.00
1119 , the App Visibility server installation utility enables you to run the installation
process repeatedly, without notifying you that components are already installed
.

Workaround: To ensure that the App Visibility server components are not
already installed, look for the component services, as described in the Verifying
the App Visibility server component installations topic. If one or more
components are already on the computer, uninstall them before running the
installation utility.

VCI- App Visibility, After you install the App Visibility agent for Java from an installation package 10.0.00
224 Central from the Central Monitoring Administration on a Linux operating system, the
Monitoring installation always reports that it successfully completed, even if it did not.
Administration
Workaround: Always check the installation log file, bmc_ad_agent_install.log
, for errors.

TOM-12388 Synthetic The tooltip for the URLChecker.ltz script parameter, Raise error if 10.0.00
the title is, is incorrect.

The tooltip reads, An error will be raised if the title

contains this string.

The correct tooltip is, An error will be raised if the title

starts with this string.

TOM-12387 Synthetic Foreign-language characters and other special characters entered in 10.0.00
predefined script attribute fields (Silk Performer project attributes) are not
interpreted properly.

Workaround: Use custom scripts for functionality that requires special

characters.

TOM-12353 Synthetic On the Synthetic Scripts page, the filter displays the correct filter results, 10.0.00
but Select All selects all of the scripts regardless of the filter results. This
issue means that Delete Selected deletes all scripts on the list, not just
the scripts returned by the filter.

Workaround: Select scripts to be deleted individually; do not use Select

All.

TOM-12306 Infrastructure The Control Port Event Adapter fails to bind the port on pure IPv4 Linux 10.0.00
Management servers.

Workaround:

1. Edit the file $MCELL_HOME/lib/perl/MA/Adapter/

GenericCtrlPort.pm.
2. Search for the function sub new.
3. Update the value of the variable $self->{local_addr}from
undef to localhost. The updated variable should be as follows:
$self->{local_addr} = "localhost";
4. Save the file.
5. Start the Adapter.

TOM-12152 Synthetic When you delete a large number of scripts simultaneously, not all of the 10.0.00
scripts are deleted. No error message is displayed.

Workaround: Delete the leftover scripts again.

TOM-12139 Synthetic In Chrome and Firefox, the Executions view does not always initially 10.0.00
display all of the executions in chronological order.

Workaround: Click on the Transaction Start Time column heading to

sort the executions.

2. Perform one of the following actions:
(Internet Explorer 10) Click the Document Mode tab and
select Standards or Quirks.
(Internet Explorer 11) Click the Emulation tab and select
Edge in the Document mode list.

TOM-12039 Synthetic If you upload scripts, and you click Cancel before the operation is 10.0.00
concluded, the upload operation continues. If you try to upload scripts
again before the upload operation concludes, all of the buttons in the
upload dialog box except for the Cancel button are disabled.

Workaround:

1. Click Cancel to close the Upload dialog box.

2. Leave the Scripts page and open the Scripts page again.
3. Delete the scripts that you do not need.
4. Upload the scripts that you do need.

TOM-11997 Synthetic If you upload multiple scripts, the Scripts page does not always display all 10.0.00
of the uploaded scripts. If you attempt to upload the scripts again, you see
a message that the scripts already exist.

Workaround: Leave the Scripts page open and after some time, refresh it
to see the full list of scripts.

TOM-11912 Synthetic Foreign-language characters and other special characters in error 10.0.00
messages from monitored applications are not interpreted properly and
appear as meaningless text.

TOM-11900 Synthetic In the Locations view, if you select a custom time range that is before 10.0.00
locations were defined for the Execution Plan, no message is displayed to
indicate that no locations were found in the selected time range.

TOM-11876 Presentation A data provider that has been added as a component in the Presentation 10.0.00

TOM-9551 User access A conflict can result through the division of some permissions for App 10.0.00
Visibility pages in the Operations Management console. For example, you
TOM-11728 can have permission to add or edit an application, but if you do not have
permission to view it, you cannot access it.

Workaround: Ensure that the following sets of permissions are grouped

together:

View Application Configuration List and View Application

Configuration
View All Applications and View All Tabs for an Application
View All Business Transactions, View Transaction Traces and
View Trace Details

TOM-11662 Synthetic When there is a codepage error, Silk Performer returns an incomplete 10.0.00
error message as follows:

Error ID=27

This behavior is a known issue with the Silk Performer SDK. The full error
message is actually as follows:

Error ID=27
Message=Start was not successful. RESERR: 1028 - The
BDF file's codepage does not match the ANSI codepage
of the system.

TOM-11653 Events On event slots with slot type LIST_OF_STRING, the search is 10.0.00
case-sensitive. You have to specify the exact match. However, on event
slots with other slot types, the search is not case-sensitive.

TOM-11519 Browsers In Internet Explorer, an application model in the Operations Management 10.0.00
console displays only the names of the components, and does not display
the icons of the different components.

TOM-11451 Graphs While creating a graph for a monitor, if you select an attribute that 10.0.00
contains no data in the left or right axis, the Y-axis for the graph is not
displayed.

TOM-11393 Infrastructure An initialization error might be displayed when you add a TrueSight 10.0.00
Management Infrastructure Management server to the TrueSight Presentation Server.

Workaround: Ensure that the TrueSight Infrastructure Management

server is accessible from the TrueSight Presentation Server using both
host name and FQDN.

If not, enter the information in the TrueSight Presentation Server hosts file
:

(Windows)<host drive:>\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

versions in

TOM-11353 Browsers In certain versions of Firefox, when the check box is enabled in the 10.0.00
Events page, the event details page is not loaded when you click the
event time stamp.

Workaround: Use the action menu for the event to load the event details
page.

TOM-11068 App Visibility If you restart an application server with an App Visibility agent, and events 10.0.00
on that server are open, the events are not automatically closed.

Workaround: After restarting the application server, manually close the

events.

TOM-10315 Synthetic The Execution Plan table on the Synthetic tab on the Edit Application 10.0.00
page shows a No execution plans message even though there are
Execution Plans defined for the application.

Workaround: Perform any other action within the Operations

Management console and then come back to refresh the Application
details and see the list of Execution Plans.

TOM-9881 Mobile On Android-based tablets, you can enter more than two digits in the hour 10.0.00
devices and minute fields of the calendar in the time filter option. Only the first two
digits are considered to determine the time.

TOM-9531 Browsers In the Advanced filter option of the Events page, the sorting of Chinese 10.0.00
characters in the event class drop-down box is incorrect.

This issue is observed in Chrome and Firefox browsers.

TOM-9139 User access If you create an application in the Operations Management console, and 10.0.00
you do not have access to all application objects, the application does not
appear in the Application Management list and cannot be accessed until it
is added to the authorization profile.

Workaround: A user with Administrator permissions must add the newly

created application to your authorization profile. If you use an
authorization profile that has access to all application objects, such as the
preconfigured Application Specialist - Applications profile, then you can
access the application after creation.

TOM-8920 App Visibility For applications monitored by the App Visibility agent for .NET, data for 10.0.00
AJAX requests with chunked responses are not calculated or displayed in
the results for the Network tier and the User Transactions view.

TOM-8844 App Visibility If the sampling rate value is less than 100%, the User Transactions page 10.0.00
does not show the correct hit count.

TOM-8366 Integration Adding an Integration Service prior to version 9.5 is not supported. Doing 10.0.00
Service so generates an event that the Integration Service is disconnected, even
though the Integration Service is not added to system.

TOM-8317 App Visibility If the App Visibility agent captures transaction data during a scan of 10.0.00
antivirus software, an application might be displayed on the Applications
page with a name that appears to be random characters.

Workaround: Either add an application discovery rule to discard the

application with the unexpected name, or delete the application, which
prevents it from being displayed in the Operations Management console.

Management Server continues using the data connection to the
uninstalled Presentation Server.

Workaround: It is necessary to restart the Infrastructure Management

Server to connect it as a data provider component when the
Presentation Server is installed on a new system.

TOM-7665 User Access Because of a limitation with Atrium Single Sign-On, the logon fails for 10.0.00
users who enter their credentials as non-English language characters,
which includes non-English language singlebyte characters and multibyte
characters.

TOM-7295 Central If you import the base and extended repository at the same time in two
Monitoring different browser windows, after the import, the folder names appear as
Administration component names.

Workaround: Import the base and extended repository one after the
other.

TOM-6591 Central If the pop-up blocker is enabled, the Central Monitoring Administration 10.0.00
Monitoring link to launch Central Monitoring Administration does not work when

Administration displayed:

Unable to get repository data. Unable to add or edit

monitor configuration.

Workaround: Delete the \truesightpserver\data\pproxy\

depot_directory folder and import the correct repository file.

TOM-5623, App Visibility For transactions that end with exceptions, App Visibility might not be able 10.0.00
TOM-8818 to show end-to-end time, network time, and hit count. In such cases, the
Application View statistics in the Network tier and in the User
Transactions view are based on successful transactions or based on
transaction latency.

TOM-5192 Infrastructure Duplicate devices are created in Operations Management if devices are 10.0.00
Management synchronized from two different Infrastructure Management Servers that
have different DNS names.

TOM-742 App Visibility On SPARC computers running WebLogic 12c, the application server 10.0.00
performance deteriorates or crashes due to code cache depletion. The
WebLogic error log (hs_err_pid*.log) shows an error similar to the
following example: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: requested
3232 bytes for CodeCache: no room for vtable chunks.

The behavior is caused by a massive class allocation, usually for

dynamically allocated classes.

Workaround: Contact BMC Customer Support.

CRE-944 Central On a secondary disaster recovery (DR) Server, Central Monitoring 9.6
Monitoring Administration might display duplicate server entries with connected or
Administration disconnected state.

Workaround: Deregister the Child Server by using the following

command:

pw cmadmin deregisterChildServer -ChildHost=<childHost

> -ChildUser=<childUser> -ChildPasswd=<childPassword>
-force

Note: The server name displayed should be the server alias and not the
host name.

QM001762132 Central When you try to import the full repository through the Single solution 9.6
Monitoring option in Central Monitoring Administration, the Uploading is in
Administration progress... message is displayed all the time.

Workaround: Ensure that you import only the single solution, not the full
repository, using the Single solution option.

QM001823287 Central If you sort by a column and navigate to another page and sort by the 9.6
Monitoring same column, then the sort order of all column values in all pages might
Administration be incorrect.

BMC TrueSight Operations Management console

The BMC TrueSight Operations Management console provides the interface for monitoring and
diagnosing failures and for configuring the Presentation Server that consumes information from the
following data providers:

Events and performance data from BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management

Active applications and performance data from BMC TrueSight App Visibility Manager
Synthetic application transactions and performance data generated by the BMC Synthetic
Transaction Execution Adapter (TEA) Agent

For more information, see BMC TrueSight Operations Management overview.

BMC TrueSight Presentation Server

The Presentation Server hosts the web-based Operations Management console functions and
consumes events and performance data from the data providers to provide a consolidated set of
views for monitoring the infrastructure from an application context. In addition to data presentation,
the Presentation Server performs functions such as role-based access control and data
management functions such as storage and persistence. The Presentation Server supports
integrations to other products, high availability, and disaster recovery. User management and
multitenancy support is enabled through integrated system authentication with BMC Atrium Single
Sign-On.

The Presentation Server also supports IPv6 communication and is supported on localized operating
system platforms and browsers.

For more information, see BMC TrueSight Operations Management architecture.

Improved monitoring views and usability

The new TrueSight Operations Management console provides the following benefits:

Enhanced UI to view the devices and events originating from the Infrastructure Management
and App Visibility components
Reduced number of consoles and simplified deployment that promotes consistent user
experience

For more information, see Getting started with devices and events .

Application visibility for IT Operations

App Visibility is an application performance management tool. No matter where your applications
are hosted, you, the IT Operations operator, can see real-time, end-to-end visibility from an
end-user transaction to a single line of code. Application monitoring and management provides you
with a visual representation of the business applications in your environment, and the ability to
identify and diagnose issues. Together, App Visibility and Infrastructure Management provide the
ability to monitor your network in the context of an application:

Real-time topological application model for IT Operations

Graphical views of the status and high-level information of all applications that you can filter
and sort to easily identify the root cause of an issue and resolve it
Enhanced application tiers view with network and user impact information as well as auto
detecting the web, business and database tiers
Ability to count the number of users and point where latency issues occur
Dashlets that monitor the health of applications that are most important to you, and to see
the impact that application health has on your users

See also, App Visibility changes in architecture and views (see page 19).

Application View and diagnostics

The Application View acquires data from App Visibility to present a holistic end-to-end view of the
application that displays the performance and availability of real users and synthetic executions,
network, and back-end tiers. From the Application View, you delve into issues that could affect your
end users. You can investigate the root cause and reduce the time it takes to find the source of
application problems.

Application models
An application model is a topological representation of a business or IT application, and the
relationship of the infrastructure components (that is, devices and monitor instances) that are
required to support or provide functionality to the application. For information about application
models with application monitoring, see Getting started with application monitoring.

Application models are not dependent upon configuration items (CIs) from the BMC Atrium
Configuration Management Database (CMDB). They can be created automatically by Operations
Management for web-based applications with BMC TrueSight App Visibility or created manually for
applications that are not web-based.

Note

Service models are still supported by BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management. A

service model can be created from BMC Atrium CMDB or defined in the BMC TrueSight
Infrastructure Management administration console. For more information, see Defining
service models .

BMC TrueSight Operations Management 10.0 Page 15 of 29

Home BMC Software Confidential

Business service state from service models defined in Infrastructure Management

If you have defined service models in BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management, the configuration
item (CI) for top-level business service will be imported into the Applications page as a service
application after you connect a BMC TrueSight Infrastructure Management Server to BMC
TrueSight Operations Management. For information about how to configure this option, see
Configuring business services and other CIs to appear in the Applications page .

Customized and consolidated views with dashboards

The dashboards feature enables you to create consolidated and customized graphical views of
your environment. You construct a dashboard by selecting a dashlet template and configuring it to
access data about your monitored systems or applications. When the configured dashlet highlights
a problem, you can also use it as an entry point to investigate and troubleshoot the root cause. The
ability to share dashboards enables members of work groups to create and maintain a single
dashboard that they can all use. If you find a shared dashboard that you like, you can copy it and
use it as is or modify it as necessary.

For more information about creating and using dashboards, see the following topics:

Getting started with dashboards

Synthetic transaction monitoring

Synthetic transaction monitoring includes the following improvements:

Setup is streamlined, with all of the configurations performed from a single page. This
feature includes SLAs defined globally at the application level and at the more specific
Execution Plan level, one-time or recurring blackout settings, and more. See Editing an
application's synthetic settings for more details.
Synthetic monitoring is available at multiple levels (application, Execution Plan, location,
execution, etc.) so you can drill down to the level that you need. See Monitoring synthetic

Common administration
The BMC TrueSight Operations Management console provides Solution Administrators with a
consolidated interface for performing the following activities:

Connecting the Presentation Server to its data providers and integrating with other products
Setting up data collection and monitoring for IT Operations
Administering role-based access control to the data and monitoring features

For authentication of users and tenant management, Operations Management integrates out of the
box with BMC Atrium Single Sign-on.

To get started with Solution Administration, see Getting started with solution administration in the
Operations Management console.

Common monitoring functions

The Presentation Server and Operations Management console provide the following common
features for setting up monitoring views:

Dashboards
Application models
Groups

BMC Atrium Single Sign-On authentication and multitenancy support

BMC Atrium Single Sign-On provides user account and tenant management to BMC TrueSight
Operations Management. Solution Administrators create accounts and tenants in BMC Atrium
Single Sign-On and can view accounts in the Operations Management console. For more
information, see

Role-based access control

The Presentation Server provides role-based access control to data, system features, and features
enabled by the data providers. In the Operations Management console, Solution Administrators
define authorization profiles that control data access and the users' ability to perform functions. For
more information, see Role-based access and Managing users and access control.

App Visibility changes in architecture and views

While the architecture between the App Visibility server components and agents is the same as
BMC Application Diagnostics 2.6, registration of the App Visibility portal on the Presentation Server
through the Operations Management console greatly simplifies integration with Infrastructure
Management.

The Operations Management console has the following changes:

Application models are discovered automatically.

New application dashlets are available.
End-user browser metrics and network time metrics are improved.

Service-level agreement (SLA) thresholds can be set for the entire application, not just the
entry-point level.
Limited monitoring is available for application server metrics.

To download files
1. Create a directory in which to downloaded files.

Note

On Microsoft Windows computers, ensure that the directory is only one level into
the directory structure. The EPD package creates a directory in the temporary
directory when you extract the files, and the directory that contains the installation
image must not be in a directory deeper than two levels into the directory structure.

2. Go to http://www.bmc.com/available/epd.html.
3. At the logon prompt, enter your user ID and password, and click Submit.
4. On the Export Compliance and Access Terms page, provide the required information, accept
the terms of the agreements, and click Continue.
5. If you are accessing this site for the first time, create an EPD profile to specify the languages
and platforms that you want to see, according to the EPD site help; otherwise, skip to step 6.
6. Verify that the correct profile is displayed for your download purpose, or use the Profile list
to select a different profile.
7. In the Filter Products text box under Products, type BMC TrueSight Presentation Server
and press Enter, or click Go.
8. From the list of products displayed on the right side, click the appropriate product license.
9. In the pop-up window, select the Version (default selection is the latest GA version), the
Platform (if applicable), and click Go.
10. Click the appropriate tab, and select the check boxes next to the files and documents that
you want to download:
a. Products—Displays the product files and supplementary related files available for
download.
b. Patches—Displays the patch and service pack files available for download.
c. License Information—Displays the files related to licenses.
d. Documentation—Displays the Online Technical Documentation links and the offline
zip files of the documentation available for download.

Note

You cannot select files across the tabs. When you click another tab, current
selections are cleared.

11. Click Download (FTP) or Download Manager:

Download (FTP) places the selected items in an FTP directory, and the credentials
and FTP instructions are sent to you in an email message.
Download Manager enables you to download multiple files consecutively and to
resume an interrupted download if the connection drops.
This method requires a one-time installation of the Akamai NetSession client program
on the target computer and is usually the faster and more reliable way to transfer files.
A checksum operation is used to verify file integrity automatically.
12. To go back to the product listing page to download other product files, or to logout from EPD,
click the << Back to Product List link that is displayed to the top-right of the pop-up window
.

Where to go from here

Carefully review the system requirements for your platform and other tasks necessary for setting up
the installation environment. You must perform these tasks before you launch the installation
program.
