A Reflection about the Importance of Arts

We were asked to watch several videos and read articles about Arts and Culture.

The videos are entitled, “What is Culture?”, “What is art for?”, “Why art matters” and the

other had tell the reasons why we, Filipinos, should give priority and importance to the

two fields. While for the given articles, it had written the experiences and admirations of

the Filipino artists who have been working and practicing Arts to represent the Culture

of our beloved country. Before when I was on 9 th grade, we have a lot of activities and

stuffs to do in my Arts class and Culture subject. At that time, I did not really care much

for it and sometimes often neglected, since I do not like and appreciate its value, and

because of this, it has never occurred to me just how important Arts and Culture in the

development of my country and myself. After watching and reading those materials, I

found the dominant reasons why Arts and Culture exist in our world.

I may have known and heard the words Arts and Culture quite a lot and linked

together. However, I am not actually equipped on its profound meaning. With the first

video, I have captivated the significance of culture and its aspects such as social

organization, language, customs and tradition, arts and literature and economic system.

By presenting of it, I just realized that it would provide us imperative and intrinsic values

and benefits as it allows people in a group to be confident and capable to express one’s

feeling and wants. For the next video discusses mainly, the Arts, and its purposes and

how it influences the human lives and the entire world. Frankly, I only know that the Art

is a form of expression of the skilled people, particularly artists, painters, and sculptors.
Through the video, I have embodied its own notable value and its beneficial purposes

for people. In such way, it would give us hope and prompts us human to see the

brighter side after all the burdens we face in life in this distracted and noisy world.

Behind that, based on the second video, there are other personal reasons why artists

are making artworks. In their views, they want to tell their own stories and the other

people’ stories so; it will remind us not to make the same mistakes. It is unbelievable

that artists would not just engaged in this kind of discipline for their benefits, even so

alleviate and enlighten us to perceive and confront the reality.

It is truly undeniable that there are many Filipino artists exploring and engaging in

Arts, who are using their special talents for a common good. These artists are making

artworks like paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures and others that offers beauty

and solace though there are some who I found making artworks, which are distinctive

and depiction of unusual or different conception – madness, cruelty, and violence. From

the certain videos and articles, some artists who endowed to express their unusual or

different conceptions in making artworks who had experienced and witnessed how the

world became rude to them as well as to people who are victims of civil wars and

ferocities.

By the hard works and dedication of the Filipino artists to express their own

talents and share their own stories, after two decades, we conceptualized our own

museum, which called as Museum of National History. This achievement was very

overwhelming and will be always considered as gratified to all Filipino citizens that we

have given many gifted fellow citizens that contributed to the progress and development
from the most primitive into modernized world and created an effect for the better lives

of the people in the Philippines.

When I look back on the days before I never knew about Arts, I did not care so

much how it is important, and because of that, I pity myself. I failed to see its

importance, but I will make up for it now by appreciating and patronizing the Filipino

artworks. I deem that it is crucial for widening and improving the field of arts in the

country. Through the support in Filipinos artists, I can also contribute in telling the reality

to the next generation.
