A Blind Child

By: John Leree B. Coralde

Child of White and Gray Light flashed and blinded the room
Whose heart is of the clouds Yet as quickly as it came, it vanished the
What do you have to say same
About that blade in your hand? And oh what a sight it is to see
The boy is wailing, begging to be free

His silence and frown were there to greet me

Staring me with empty void-like eyes Struggling, Struggling he was
Tears ran down on his face Like a fish out of water
And each spoke a thousand words Snapping the rope and he fell
Like an angel descending onto earth

His heart caved in, His mind confused

The madness of solitude He knelt and wept
and the desolation of his soul His tears flowed like a waterfall
Has turned him into a melancholic fool A glistening lake formed under him
Filled with dreams of color and light

He’s blind as a bat

Eyes clouded by his sorrow Once he had goals he said
Yet he’s overjoyed for some reason Dreams of living bright
Said he can’t wait for tomorrow Dreams of happiness and delight
Yet life had forsaken him he said

A gift will arrive he said

From his old friend the Reaper Useless, Worthless, Idiotic
A gift for them to finally meet he said Just a few things society defines him
As it was a necktie with a touch of death Forgotten, Alone, Unloved
Just a few things he describes himself

Clutching it, he put it around his neck

Like he was getting ready for prom
He jumped in the air and jokingly said
“I’ll be with you, My Friend”
Even now, he’s still blind He’d sat under the rain of his parade
Eyes clouded up by ideals Sipping tea like it was a normal day
He still thinks he’s alone He’d used that time to reflect and dissect
Even though someone’s there beside him What he saw good and okay

What an idiot he truly is He continued his life optimistically

He shouldn’t have struggled! But never forgetting the memories of the
But he was not willing to let it all go past
Not yet, Not yet... That once he was engulfed with despair
Now he’s glistening with light

The blade’s been put down Now he can clearly see

The Noose has been ceased Eyes cleared from complications
He still had hope in his heart Now he loves what he has
Even though it was a drop in the ocean Ignoring life’s various contradictions

He had dreams still The boy who was once white and gray
And he’d like to make it happen Blooms with color in his heart
He would try, Step by Step His life now has changed; I am sure.
Not to make it all forgotten For he already had

He tried every day to speak and share

What’s hidden behind that vault in his mind
Little by little, courage build up
Until the day he managed to tell

The chain that was once on his heart is gone

Anxiety had lost its grip
He’d speak to people that cared
Even if there would be just one
