Day #1: Swim Practice

Before:

• 6 weeks since injury

During:

• At the swim practice I realized, I was still limited from a few strokes and drills. The first
issue was that the butterfly and backstroke strokes were out of the question. Every time I

tried to do them, I would feel a terrible pain that was a mixture of both sharp and throb.

Freestyle was off and on for me. Sometimes it would feel alright, but if I did it for too

long, the throbbing pain would attack me full force.

• All my times had increased, since I was out of the water for a while, so it wasn’t all that
surprising, but it was definitely very difficult to comprehend for myself personally. I felt

and still feel slow and that I can’t do much to fix it no matter how I try.

• What I realized for some reason, my least favorite stroke, breaststroke, felt the best to do
with my elbow. The only downside with this is that I have terrible genetic knees, so

breaststroke is pretty painful on those even though it may feel great for my arms.

• When my coach started to ease me into the water polo aspect of the practice, I was
already exhausted form the swimming portion, thanks to being out if shape.

• The issue that showed up for the water polo portion is pretty self-explanatory. I couldn’t
shot block, physical contact still bugged me, swimming fast caused pain, and overall the

whole practice was painful.
