About This Chapter

This chapter describes the urgent maintenance measurements applicable to the situations when
the server or the client is power down or has other power failures.

8.1 Urgent Maintenance of the T2000 Server

This section describes the common restoration method after serious failures such as the server
is down.

CAUTION
After a serious failure such as server down occurs, the system does not work, and all user data
cannot be restored. Hence, if there is no backup, the result can be very serious.

The urgent maintenance of the T2000 server is based on backup. If the T2000 server is down or
any other serious problem occurs, take the following steps:
1. Reinstall the operating system and the T2000 software.
2. If there is data backup, use the T2000 database management tool T2000DM to restore the
T2000 data from the backup.
NOTE
The T2000DM is located in the database directory of the T2000 server directory.
l In UNIX, the default directory is /T2000/server/database/T2000DM.sh.
l In Windows, the default directory is C:\T2000\server\database\T2000DM.exe.

8.2 Urgent Maintenance of the T2000 Client

This section describes the common restoration method after serious failures such as the client
is down.
If the T2000 client is down, take the following steps:
1. Reinstall the operating system.
2. Reinstall the T2000 client software. For detailed operations, refer to OptiX iManager T2000
Installation Guide.

8.3 Urgent Maintenance upon T2000 Server Power Failure

When the server is power down abnormally, the operating system and applications may exit
abnormally, and the system may be corrupted. After power on again, you should take appropriate
measurements according to the actual situation, and try to repair the system.

This section describes how to handle the database is suspending when the UNIX server is
properly started.

8.3.1 Cannot Start the Operating System Because of System File

Loss
This section describes how to handle the problem that the UNIX server cannot be started and
the information is displayed indicating path_to_inst cannot be opened.

Symptom
After the server is restarted, the user cannot connect to the server by using either Telnet or Ping.
The following information is displayed in the display or by using the serial port:
Cannot open ‘/etc/path_to_inst’
Program terminated
Then, the system stops starting, and automatically returns to the window of the OK prompt.

Fault Handling
The server is power down abnormally. The operating system is corrupted, and the system file
path_to_inst is lot. Hence, the operating system cannot be started.

1. Press STOP + A to exit from starting, and return to the window of the OK prompt.
TIP
The STOP key is only available on the keyboard attached to the UNIX server. If there is no STOP
key, press Ctrl + Break.
2. Insert the first installation CD of the Solaris, and enter the following command:
ok boot cdrom -s

3. Enter the following commands to find the corresponding device name of the system root
directory:
# cd /dev/dsk
# ls

4. Set the device name of the root directory to /mnt. Take the device name of c0t0d0s0 for
example. Take the following command to enter the /mnt mounted point and repair the
corrupted operating system:
# mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /mnt

CAUTION
If /etc/path_to_inst is lost, restore it by using the path_to_inst-INSTALLthat is saved in the /
etc directory of the system.
# cd /mnt/etc
# cp path_to_inst-INSTALL path_to_inst

5. Enter the following commands to restart the operating system:

# sync;sync;sync;sync;sync;sync
# shutdown -y -g0 -i6

After the system is properly restarted, enter the fsck -y command to repair the file system. After
that, manually start the Sybase database and then the T2000 application.

8.3.2 Terminal Information of Manually Executing fsck to Repair

File System
This section describes how to handle the problem when the server fails to be started normally
and the terminal information is displayed asking you to manually execute fsck to repair file
system.

Symptom
After the server is restarted, the user cannot log in to the server by entering the Telnet command.
The following information can be displayed in the display or by using the serial port:
WARNING - Unable to repair the / filesystem. Run fsck manually (fsck -F ufs
/dev/rdsk/c*t*d*s*). Exit the shell when done to continue the boot process.
Type control-d to proceed with normal startup,
(or give root password for system maintenance):

NOTE
In the alarm information Unable to repair the / filesystem, filesystem may indicate another disk.

Fault Handling
The server is power down abnormally. The operating system is corrupted, and needs manual
repair.
1. Log in as user root and enter to the following command to modify the file system:
# fsck -y
After that, view the repair information. Check whether the file systems in all disks are
correct and whether file systems in the corrupted disk is repaired. If the error information
or information of any object that requires repairing is displayed again, enter the above
command repeatedly until no such information is displayed.
2. Verify /opt/sybase/ASE-12_5/T2000DBServer.krg is deleted.
NOTE
Server power-down may cause abnormal exit of Sybase. If /opt/sybase/ASE-12_5/
T2000DBServer.krg is not deleted, Sybase may not be started normally. Hence, after the operating
system is restarted, check whether this file exists. If the file exists, delete it and start Sybase. After
Sybase is properly started, start the T2000 application.

8.3.3 Suspending of the Database

This section describes how to handle the database is suspending when the UNIX server is
properly started.

Symptom
The UNIX server and the database are properly restarted, but the T2000 fails to be started. The
information is displayed indicating abnormal database. Check the database, and the database is
suspended. View the database log /opt/sybase/ASE-12_5/install/T2000DBServer.log, the
following information is displayed:
00:00000:00001:2005/07/20 17:33:25.71 server Error: 926, Severity: 14, State: 1

00:00000:00001:2005/07/20 17:33:25.71 server Database 'iMapAlarmDB' cannot be

opened.
An earlier attempt at recovery marked it 'suspect'.
Check the SQL Server errorlog for information as to the cause.
The above information indicates that the iMapAlarmDB is suspended, and is marked as suspect,
so the database cannot be started.

NOTE
If the master is suspended, you need to reinstall the database or contact the SYBASE engineers for technical
support.

Fault Handling

You need to manually repair the database.

1. Enter the following command to log in to the database as use sa:

# su - sybase
$ isql -ST2000DBServer -Usa -Ppassword of user sa -zus_english

2. Enter the following commands to update the suspended database. Take iMapAlarmDB for
example.

2> go
1> update master..sysdatabases set status = -32768 where name = 'iMapAlarmDB'
2> go
1> shutdown
2> go

3. Enter the following commands to restart the database server.

$ cd /opt/sybase/ASE-12_5/install
$ ./startserver –f ./RUN_T2000DBServer &
$ ./startserver –f ./RUN_T2000DBServer_back &

4. Enter the following command to log in to the database as user sa:

$ isql -ST2000DBServer -Usa -Ppassword of user sa -zus_english

5. Enter the following command:

1> dump transaction iMapAlarmDB with no_log
2> go
1> sp_configure 'allow update', 1
2> go
1> update master..sysdatabases set status = 12 where name = 'iMapAlarmDB'
2> go

$ cd /opt/sybase/ASE-12_5/install
$ ./startserver –f ./RUN_T2000DBServer &
$ ./startserver –f ./RUN_T2000DBServer_back &

7. Enter the following command to log in to the database as user sa:

$ isql -ST2000DBServer -Usa -Ppassword of user sa -zus_english

8. Enter the following commands:

1> use master
2> go
1> sp_dboption iMapAlarmDB,'trunc. log on chkpt.',true
2> go
1> use iMapAlarmDB
2> go
1> checkpoint
2> go
1> sp_configure 'allow update', 0
2> go
1> shutdown
2> go

9. Enter the following commands to restart the database server. After that, the database is
restored.
$ cd /opt/sybase/ASE-12_5/install
