TDT1 Task 1: Website

  Designing a Website
 https://bartonbobcats.weebly.com/
 I began by choosing to create a website my students could use to help them with library
and research resources. I already have a district provided library site, but I wanted one with my
own choices.
 I picked a free program to design the website. I chose the education version of Weebly.
 I started by creating an account. I had to choose a username and password and then give
an email address. I then needed to give some personal information (the site guides you) then
clicked submit. There are how-to videos if information is needed. I chose not to view them.
 I picked a template based on an educational design and it already had my school colors as
part of the theme. It already had some basic options but can be adjusted later if needed.
 After choosing the theme I needed to decide how people would access it. I choose the
Use a Subdomain of Weebly.com as it was the easiest and it is free. I just added a name after
the http://. I chose bartonbobcats as that is the name of both my school and mascot.
 There is a Get Started video, but I chose to skip and Build my Site.
 The main part of the screen is what the website will look like.
 Before starting to change the templates, I added the four necessary pages (Home,
Graphics, Multimedia, Print) and rename them as required.
 Then I clicked the Build option on left top of the page. This allows you to add different
elements. I added a Title which will be added to every page in the website.
 This theme’s template had an image box in the center of the page with a text box and link
button next to it. I edited the Text box to add a Title and the mission statement for our school
library program. I clicked on the link button and added the link to my school’s library catalog
and changed the name of the button.
 I then clicked on the provided image and the Edit Image menu appeared. I clicked on
Upload Image to load a picture of my school library from my computer. I cropped it to show
the best view of the picture and saved.
 Below the main image, this theme had an image and text element. I wanted another
image element, so I dragged the element from the menu on the left and added it to the left side

of the text box. By clicking in the text box, I was able to change the text to the names of the
library staff. And then uploaded pictures of the staff using the same steps as above.
 This theme included three links at the bottom of the page. I clicked in the first box to edit
the title. Then clicked in the text box underneath to edit and explain what the link was to be
used for. Finally, I clicked in the button section and added a link to a page on the district
provided website. I proceeded to do the same to the other theme provide links.
 When I was done editing the Home page, I went to each of the other pages in the website
and added a Title element. In each title box I explained what would be added to the page as the
site was built so viewers would know what to expect.
 When I was done editing the pages, I clicked Publish. This gives me the option to
publish to the free Weebly subdomain or to pay for a domain. I chose to stay with the free
version.
 There is a link that will take you to the published version of the website. I used it to
check to make sure the images were visible, and all the provided links worked properly.
