From the owner:

"Rescued from a scrapyard in Worksop, the initial refurbishment work carried out
on 'FNE 845' was performed by the late Richard Beresford of Land Rover fame.
Thereafter, the project was taken over by Peter Ratcliffe of SVW Restorations
(the leading international specialists for MG SA / VA / WA models).

I not only bought the bits from SVW but also commissioned them to restore it for
me as a historic rally prepared car taking delivery in December 2000. Greengage
as she is known has completed numerous rallies including:

The Winter Challenge to Monte Carlo, a Classic Run to Cortina, the Scottish
Malts and the New Zealand Kiwi Rally (December 2006). She has finished with
medals in all rallies except our first. On the New Zealand event she was joint
winner in addition to receiving two other prizes for the best-prepared car.

Her engine is the standard 2.6 litre unit with a higher compression ratio of
approximately 7:1. The gearbox has been fettled with new bearings etc. She has
Koni shock absorbers and uprated twin leading shoe front brakes. Cruising at 60
-70mph is normal on her Blockley tyres. The wheels, springs, suspension, ash
frame, bodywork, chrome and interior (new upholstery, carpets, walnut
dashboard / cappings) have all been attended to.

She is fast and a real head turner. The bonnet is louvered to both the top and
sides, the SU carburettors are well insulated and there is a special fan driven
ventilation set-up. The Jackall system is in place but awaiting new rubber seals.
A later distributor is linked to Lumenition Magnetron ignition but this modification
can be easily reversed.

There are twin side-mounted spare wheels probably only fitted to other MG WA
Tickfords. The body being originally constructed at the Tickford Works in Newport
Pagnell, Bedfordshire. These fittings are original.

The fuse system is located in the armrest between the front seats and there is a
binnacle mounted on the gearbox tunnel which houses a volt meter, telephone
point and typical rally switches. The car has been converted to Negative Earth.
There is the usual competition car isolator switch and an additional control one
for the two 12volt lead-acid batteries which is hidden behind and under the rear
seats as part of the battery management system. With everything connected the
car starts on the button.

A Belmog mechanical gearbox-driven rally and twin readout tacho remains in situ
to suit further historic rally usage. Similarly, a higher output dynamo stays within
historic rally rules while still providing enough power for higher wattage front /
rear lights etc.
The double-lined Tickford hood is in excellent condition and the car is 99%
waterproof except if caught in a torrential downpour or severe snowstorm.
Greengage has toured around Europe several times passing through Spain,
Belgium, Holland, Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. She is
adored everywhere and makes friends across all languages taking ferries and
tunnels in her stride. Attending a SVW rally in Wales we invited Richard
Beresford's sons to accompany us and drive the car that they grew up with. It
was a wonderful reunion.

I am proud to have been Greengage's custodian for eight years. She is ready to
drive with a current MOT certificate and historic class (free) road fund licence and
I hope has many years of touring or rally life ahead of her. Perhaps a gentler
future is due for I have driven her like a sports car.

Though, she seemed to relish her recent visit to the English Lakes where she
stormed up the road known locally as 'The Struggle' from Ambleside to the
Kirkstone pass. However, this was not as daunting as rallying up the Stelvio Pass
on which she excelled with a very useful second gear and 5,000rpm. These cars
are strong - witness the 1936 MG SA which successfully completed the recent
Paris-Beijing rally - and Greengage is no exception. I have three other MGs and
a 1925 Delage Boat-Tail racer which is destined to become our left-hand drive
European tourer. So this sale is an attempt to downsize my collection".

During its restoration this vehicle's main bodywork was recreated using
aluminium rather than steel in the interests of both lightness and longevity.
Though, the wings and running boards are made from steel.
