CHAPTER II

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES

RELATED LITERATURE

According to (November, 2001), technology can improve school performance and

enhance student’s critical thinking, research and problem-solving skills, and logical thinking. It

is easy to engage students on a basic level and can lead them to have a meaningful intellectual

with the use of technology. Because it provides the students with opportunities to learn in ways

that were impossible before.

Technology can do a lot of things in our classroom, but one of its most important impacts

is the ability to put the power of learning in the hands of the learners. The potential for

knowledge, skill-building, and creation is available online for everyone, levelling the playing

field for students to become the experts.

All students need great exposure to a plethora in technologies in the classroom, but many

schools may not be meeting this need (Bolkan, 2012). Many students are found to have the

capability to use technology, as well as the access to do so at home, and many of those utilize it

for educational purposes (Erlich, Sport, Sebring & the Consortium on Chicago Schools, 2013). It

is important for the future generation of teachers to learn how to teach in a manner that will best

reach their students.

Technology is ubiquitous and its potential to transform learning is immense. Almost all

of us are using technology nowadays and these connections will be ubiquitous, and we’ve only

just begun to imagine the ways in which our lives will change because of these. (Pitler et al.,

2012)
It allows the students to bring the real world into the classroom and make the classrooms

feel like a part of a real world they can collect real data, analyze it, and share their work. They

can connect with experts, solve real problems, and contribute to their world.

Technology integration requires a coherent vision for systemic reform, a vision that must

be supported by the entire educational community. Technology provides powerful and flexible

tools to help leaners gather and make meaning from data, work through problems, and develop

new solutions and understandings. (Young, 2007)

Through technology we are empowered to do things. We can explore our subjects more

deeply, leverage curriculum resources from a wide range of leading institutions and

organizations, create immersive learning experience to spark the curiosity of their student.

Technology can also support teaches as learners, inspiring them to develop their own practices in

new and exciting ways. (Apple, 2017)

Technology evolves, more opportunities emerge for teachers and students to grow

professionally and engage in a 21st century world. Through technology we’re able to raise the

bar for what’s possible in classrooms and beyond.

RELATED STUDIES

(Oye et al., 2012), examines the application of e-learning model to explain the

acceptance of e-learning technology in academic setting. Their study mainly focuses on the

relationship of students using e-learning and their academic performance. Their results show that

e-learning improves student academic performance. According to these authors, the actual use of

e-learning improves the academic performance of students.

Students have access to a wide range that help them gather data in new ways. It helps

them work through problems, develop new solutions and understandings, and interpret new

experiences.

(Lumadi et al., 2013), addresses the impact of e-learning on the academic performance of

student- teachers. They conducted an experiment to determine if student- teacher taught using

method of e-learning performed better that student-teacher taught using the traditional method of

teaching and learning. Their findings suggest that e-learning has a significant influence on the

performance of students as student-teachers taught using e-learning consistently perform better

than student teacher taught using the traditional method. In their conclusion, e-learning was

found to have a significant effect on student-teachers.

Technology supports teachers in developing and managing activities, guidance, content

and learning experiences for each student’s ability and learning level. Integration of technology

enables the students to pursue unique paths and create products to meet their learning needs and

goals.

The paper by (Thaket, 2012), addressed the issue of effectiveness and usefulness of e-

learning approach in teaching the math course at level 5 in Yemen. The performance of an
experimental group of 30 students studying using e-learning approach was examined and

compared with the performance of 30 students the same course using a tradition learning

package. It was concluded that there was a significant gain in Delayed Achievement of

experimental; group using e-learning approach as compared to one using traditional learning

method. The result suggest that e-learning has achieved a greater efficiency than traditional

method.

Provides new and exciting ways to meet their challenges, but simply adding it to lesson

isn’t enough. Through technology you can use the ideas and resources to have more meaningful

learning experiences for your students and prepare them to be productive, empowered creators in

the future.

(Harandi, 2015), investigated the strength of the relationship between e-learning and

student’s motivation among students in Tehran Alzahra University. They found that e-learning is

an element which affects student motivation.

Varied and powerful tools in technology enable students to elevate their communications

to professional standards. Teacher help students engage in expressive activities by allowing them

to choose their communication tools and encourage the students to design for a specific audience

increase the rigorous of the task.

According to (Don Knesek, 2008), “Technology is being effectively integrated into

teaching and learning and is having a positive impact on increasing student achievement through

test scores and the acquisition of 21st century skills. Fortifying today’s generation with a

foundation of technology-based skills that fit within the larger picture of global competitiveness.''
Technology carry out realistic tasks that occur in the real-world environment in ways that

are designed to benefit people or change something in the world. Increasingly, rich world

interactions and authentic activities make schoolwork both meaningful and motivating, inspiring

students to do work of higher quality, achieve at higher levels, and make a difference.
