DESCRIPTIONAND OPERATION
1. Description (Ref. Figure 1)
Landing and Search Light, part numbers 66250-1, 66250-4, 66250-S and 66250-6,
is used on aircraft to provide a directional beam of light, which is aimed
' manually by a remote control switch mounted in the cockpit. Positioning of
the light is achieved by extending and rotating the lamp to the desired
poeition. The extend and rotate motions are driven by two independent
motors, which are controlled by the remote control switch working through
internal relays. The lamp can be extended to any position from fully re
tracted (stowed), to approximately 120' from stowed position. It may be
rotated in either direction (left or right), a full 360° hontinously when
in any extend or retract poeition. The maximum extend is not adjustable.
The light requires a i-28 VDC power source with a ground (negative) return.
The lamp is manually turned off or on by a remote switch working through
-a relay contained in the light assembly,

20 Operation (Ref. -I_---

Figure 101) --!

Extensions and rotations are driven by two independent motors. Both motors
Bl and B2 are reversible DC motors. They aEcontroll<d by four relays
(IU thru K4), which are energized by 28 VDC from the external control
switch. Limit switches Sl, S2 and S3 are used in limiting extension/
retraction travel, and rotational alignment. There is no rotation limit.
The light can rotate continuously in either direction through Its 360'
travel.
Limit switch Sl is normally closed and is mechanically opened at maximum
extension. Limit switch Sl is not adjustable. Limit switch S2 is normally
closed and is mechanically opened at maximum retraction. Actuation of switch
S2 is .adjustable. Limit switch S3 is only used to align light at 0' rotation
when it has reached full retraction. When the light reaches full retraction,
limit switch S2 is opened, interrupting retraction and allowing current flow
through limit switch-S3, This current energizes relay K4, causing motor 81 to
rotate to the right. This rotation continues until limit switch S3 is opened
by the trip of pin on the rotating shaft, which is keyed to the 0' rotation
point. With the limit switch S3 opened, the limit is stopped at 0' rotation.
On P/N 66250-4, -5 and -6, limit switches 54 and 55 and relayoK have on/off
control of lamp D81. When the light is extended less than 60 , and is rotat-
ed more than 90' in either direction, limit switches S4 and S5 open, and lamp
DSl extinguishes. If the light is extended past 60*, lamp DSl remains illu-
minated regardless of amount of rotation.

TESTINGAND TROUBLESHOOTING
1. Testing
A. Testing procedures for P/N 66250-l are as follows:
(1) With a +28 VDC power source, connect the negative lead to pin 1 of
terminal board TBl (Ref. Figure 101). Apply +28 VDC to pins 3 and
6. Relay R2 will close, applying voltage to motor B2 and the light
will extend until voltage to the motor is removed by switch Sl.
(2) With the light in the extended position, apply +28 VDC to pins
2, 3 and 5. Relay XC5will close and apply voltage to lamp DSl
causing it to illuminate. Relay K3 will close, applying voltage
to motor Bl, causing the light to rotate left.
(3) Remove voltage from pin 5 and apply +28 VDC to pin 4. Relay XC4
will close, applying voltage to motor Bl, causing the light to
rotate right.
(4) With the lamp at 0" rotation (switch S3 open), remove voltage from
pins 4 and 5. Apply voltage to pins 3 and 7. Relay IU will close, A
applying voltage to motor B2, causing light to retract until
voltage is removed from the motor by switch S2.
B. Testing procedures for P/N 66250-3, -4 and -5 are the same as for
P/N 66250-l with the following exceptions:
(1) Switch S4 is a lamp rotate switch that opens at left of right
go* 210 .
(2) Switch S5 is a lamp extend limit switch that is open 0' to 60' and
closed 60' to 120'.
