Domestic Violence at Home

Kristy Dyck

English SBA

Ms. Jenny Chan

22 November 2017
Plan of Investigation

The theme was selected because many teenagers are experiencing way too much violence at

home day after day and it is very important to find out how domestic violence affects students in

their studies. Domestic violence involves children, teenagers and also the elderly people but

usually it would happen to teenagers and women who are brought down to the ground the most.

Carrying out this SBA, will help students to learn proper English and it will also build up good

communication skills. The collection of information will be done through videos, songs, news,

poem and commentaries.

Entry One

Reflection Entry One

The video “Alone” mentions types of Domestic Violence which includes abuse of

teens and friends. I always thought of domestic violence as simple problems, but now I realize

that domestic violence harms you physically and emotionally, knowing that you're abused. I

wonder how many of my friends are exposed to domestic violence at home.

The article "How to Tell if a Teen is Bruised" helps identify abuse. These teens

constantly have bruises or scars. These signs I have actually seen in some of my peers but

haven’t ever questioned them. Furthermore, the report, "8 Signs to Recognize Domestic

Violence" explains that in order to hide bruised marks, teens wear clothes to cover their arms or

legs. I have also seen instances like these in school. In addition, the information has also made

me want to know what I can do to help.

Entry Two

Reflection

The video "Alone" by Eric; the poem "Traps" by John Mark Green, and the song lyrics Inner

Demons by Julia Brennan, maintain that Domestic Violence is a product of their life style. By

using Formal Standard English in all artefacts the writers use an informative tone to effectively

present the difficulties that a teen passes through at home. The main argument is that parents and

friends take advantage of those who are innocent and humble. The tone in each were

“unfriendly," and "stressful” for the video, the tone for the poems are “somber” and “ominous”

and for the song the tone was one of “foreboding”. The mood evoked for all three artefacts are

“restless,” “rejected” and “frenetic”. All artefacts effectively agree that innocent and humble

teens are taken advantage by their own friends and parents.

Reflection 1

The song "Inner Demons" is a song that made me feel so wounded and irritated. This song said,

“They can’t see the Battles in my Heart!" Teenagers are experiencing way too much violence at

home now-a-days, because of parents that don't even think about the effects that teens can have

in life. It's really important to know who is going through this so that we may help them in any

way possible. Although the scars are left behind the memories will still cross their way

throughout everything they do and the demons will show up again. Demons are really difficult to

leave behind when they are near you. Teenagers are mostly affected in their education because of

the damages within their pure heart. This song relates to young adults that are having trouble at

home with domestic violence, they may look happy from the outside but are broken in a

thousand pieces from the inside. This is a way that really affects students with their education.

Reflection 2

The poem "Traps" is a poem that made me feel extremely awful. This poem said, "I am Forever

stained!” Teenagers are getting tired of violence at home and it makes them feel so terrified.

Teenagers can barely get their feels out and expressing their own sorrows these days because

they are scared to be judged. Parents instead of helping their kids out of a tomb they stain them

more than what they have and bury them even more than what they already did. Young adults

rather keep their pain a secret instead of saying it and getting help with others they can trust.

Parents go on in life without realizing their kids are in need of their help and parents decide to

give their backs at teens. These stains stay beneath a teen's skin without any mercy marking them

for life. These are the stains that don't let students focus in their studies and make them fail.
Reflection 3

The video "Alone" made me feel depressed and frustrated. This video was demonstrating that

teenagers don't take pressure so easy. Pain and stress is something that affects young adults the

most. Parents and other teens take advantage of the weak ones without knowing the damages that

are created within their own heart and the victim. Teenagers will see that they are not worth

anything in life because of the way there are treated in life and they will try to do everything that

they can’t stop the pain in their heart. Young people will always try to find a way to end

everything within their life starting off with their life. The pressure causes teens to fall into

depression and then they end up dead. This also affects students to fail school because of the way

they are treated in school and at home. This kind of pressure will make a student lose everything.
