EMB-7 TO ESTABLISH HELP DESK FOR

HEALTHCARE WASTES CONCERNS
Posted on February 14, 2019

In the effort to avoid problems regarding disposal of medical

wastes in the future, the Environmental Management Bureau
(EMB) -7 will be establishing a Help Assistance Desk for all
concerns of healthcare
facilities.

This, after the EMB-7 gathered last Friday all major health care
facilities in Metro Cebu and other concerned agencies in a
meeting/forum to address concerns regarding proper
management of their
facility’s special wastes.

The meeting was presided by EMB-7

Director, Engr. William Cuñado, and by the
Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) – 7’s Regional
Executive Director, Engr. Gilbert Gonzales.

The Local Government Units (LGUs) of Lapu-Lapu City, Mandaue

City, and Cebu City, the Cebu Provincial Government, as well as
the Department of Health (DOH) – 7, also participated in the said
assembly.
During the meeting, the participants were able to voice out their
concerns regarding their procedures in waste management
which were also addressed by EMB-7 Officials and by the
concerned agencies.

With lots of questions from the health care

facilities, Gonzales and Cuñado have decided to
establish a Help Assistance Desk that will only
cater all concerns regarding health care wastes
to give immediate assistance and response to
the queries of the healthcare facilities.

Concerns can be emailed to hwcp.emb7@gmail.com.

Aside from the forum, the participants were

refreshed with the provisions of the Republic
Act 6969 or otherwise known as the Toxic
Substances and Hazardous and Nuclear
Wastes Control Act of 1990 and the Joint
DENR-DOH Administrative Order 2005-02 or
Policies and guidelines on effective and proper
handling, collection, transport, treatment, storage, and disposal
of healthcare wastes.

Also, they were oriented with the EMB-7’s

Hazardous Waste Manifest Tracking System
which could provide real-time update of a
certain facility’s status of their hazardous
waste management.

This tracking system is in replace to the

supposed website from the Central Office which is currently
under maintenance.
The said system will also collect real-time
data of waste generation as well as the
volume of wastes treated.

Cuñado said the meeting/forum intends to

“establish sustainable modifications on the
present procedure of medical waste management”.

Gonzales also reiterated to all how important it is to collaborate

with different stakeholders.

“Working together is the best thing that we could do in managing

our hazardous wastes in our own backyard,” said Gonzales.
