How this course made me develop my skills regarding technology.

As humans its normal for us to wander what our drive is, what motivates us to pursue life

every day. Personally, I consider my family to be my main source of motivation. The good life

experiences with my family outweigh the bad and that’s what encourages me to pursue a

better future. I also don’t give up because I have always desired to be a good role model to my

younger siblings, and I have always desired to pave the way for them. In my mind I have always

supposed that if I go through with everything necessary to succeed and become someone then

they will have someone to come to whenever they need anything. Another big motivator for

me is the fact that my parents sacrificed everything they knew to come to a completely new

country where they didn’t know the culture, the people, or the language and all for me to have

a better opportunity and better education, because who would I be not to take advantage of

this opportunity? Even when I don’t believe in myself when I don’t believe in my potential, they

don’t give up on me their love and support has always demonstrated to be unconditional. I

chose this course because technology is part of my everyday life and it would help me gain skills

that I may need in the future with my career.

At the beginning of this EDT 180 course I only had the basic knowledge of computer

software. Knowledge and skills which I had acquired through my high school career which made

me in no way near an expert. If anything, this class made me realize I had only scratched but

only the surface of everything I needed to know and learn. When I reviewed the courts

description which stated the following: “ Introduces personal computer operations and their

place in society. Problem solving approaches using databases, spreadsheets, and word

processing.” During that moment I thought well let’s try this course maybe I will learn

something new and throughout the course I realized it was about more than just learning about

technology and computers. This course has provided me with skills to be more organized using

spreadsheets, as well as helped me discover different resources I could utilize as a student and

as a future elementary school teacher. My technological skills have definitely developed, and I

can officially consider myself experienced with software’s like the Internet, Microsoft, Excel,

Office 365, and many other formats.

My favorite part of the course overall was the development of my portfolio. I feel like on my

portfolio my work truly demonstrates very explicitly my changes regarding my technology skills.

I didn’t think developing a website would be so simple but the way this course provided me the

entire guide which walked me through each step was greatly. I really enjoyed this course and

the way it was organized. Every assignment and module were fully explained, and the

procedures were very easy to follow online.

This course provided me with skills that I didn’t know I needed but that I can apply in any

portion of my life as a student and as a future elementary school teacher. We need to realize

and accept that the world is changing everyday there is more advanced technology and apps

and gadgets, so we need to evolve along its side.
