Will the cognitive robots send humans home?

World continuously subjects to transformation. It’s a verity that the present world is not the same as it
was a decade ago.

Later the world has become much fancy due to the dilation of the technological arena. The peak of this
technological revolution is the introduction of Artificial Intelligence. With the introduction of AI, it is
impartial to say, we are heading towards a new stage of Darwin’s theory of evolution.

Prodigious amount of world population believe that robotics and artificial intelligence will flare huge
amount of day today life by two three decades with the invasion of certain industries such as health
care, customer service, transport and logistics and home maintenance. Nevertheless some are worrying
about dangerous artificially intelligent machines overpowering human beings. But latter researches have
shown that there are some more critical issues that should be taken into consideration such as massive
unemployment. Without resting after taking over many blue-collar jobs, robots arising as much smarter
and efficient are starting to take over white-collar jobs as well.

Over the last two three decades plenteous amount of jobs are lost to the automation, mostly in
manufacturing field and most of the jobs including routine tasks in the offices. Dr Carl Frey, an Oxford
University researcher who has studied about the advancement of the computerized labor has predicted
that about 47% of US jobs are at high risk of automation.

Now the world is reaping the harvest of sawed seeds of AI. There are highly automated organizations
which have replaced manpower with robotic service. For an example, 90% of Futuristic Henn-na hotel in
Japan is said to be run by the robotic staff and remaining 10% is handled by the ten human employees.

IPSoft have introduced virtual cognitive agent called “Amelia” with the intention of optimizing
organization’s business and IT process. She can performs the service desk roles just like a human and
she can communicates with the customers using natural language processing techniques. She can learn
through observation and can answer the customer questions successfully.

With the amelioration of the artificial intelligence machines have become more and more capable in
analytical skills. The best example is personality insights powered by Watson, introduced by IBM.
Watson incorporated with natural language processing and machine learning, answers the customer’s
questions and analyzes the unstructured data to divulge the insight.

There is a tremendous benefit in automation and technological revolution in organizations as it leads to

inflows of profits due to the upraised productivity and efficiency of workforce. A digital workforce can
completes the work to the clock, eliminates errors, cuts down costs and improves revenues.

Most of the employers spend massive amounts of money on employee training and development,
wages and employee welfare. Yet the productivity of employees is very low and the revenue they earn is
very little. Hence more and more employers embrace automation and robotic work force as a solution.
According to the International Federation of Robotics, the number of industrial robots sold globally in
the last year hit a record high as 179,000.

Every department in an organization have embraced up-to-date technology in order to provide more
diligent service to the organization. Technology have shifted the burden of the loads of work from
professionals.

What future expects from AI for the upturn of Human Resource? There may be intelligent digital leaders
in organizations who identifies the challenges of the organization through analyzing past data and by
learning how the organization do the business. At the same time these machines will bring about
assistance to the front line managers by updating them with the most critical information and shifting
the gravity of analyzing data from their shoulders. Prospective machines will be able to predict the
turnover by analyzing the past records and also will be able forecast about the training needs and the
incentives that should be provided in advance. Robotic machines like Watson who can provide
personality insights may be ameliorated to conduct job interviews and will be a tremendous help in
matching the job with the personality of the prospective employee. This will eliminate employee
dissatisfaction over the job they do as well as the employee turnover.

But, is sound automation possible in an organization? Most probably no. Because, although the
artificially intelligent robots are precise in doing things around the clock and without errors, there
should be a human touch to monitor them and to unravel the problems if something goes wrong. Hence
automation does have its limits and robots simply can’t do it all alone.

Although the technology have revolutionized the way we do our business, still humans have some
tangible duties remaining for them without the touch of robots and technology. Though there is lot of
fear that artificially intelligent machines will take over most of the jobs, there’s still hope as there are
some things that only humans can do. Some emotions, empathy, soft skills and intuition are
conventional to humans. So it will be a very arduous task to successfully replace professionals who
should posses these characters with robots.

According to some experts, though robots take over many ground level jobs, there will be new
upcoming jobs due to the technological advancement. But some believe that artificial intelligence can
usurp our best paid jobs in the near future and we will be in a scarce of jobs.

According to John Maclntyre of University of Sunderland, the work that human do will always be
necessary although it’s likely to change over time. Vice president and chief Internet evangelist for
Google, Vint Cerf has stated, “Historically technology has created more jobs than it destroys and there is
no reason to think otherwise in this case. Someone has to make and service all these advanced devices.”

According to Stowe Boyd, lead researcher at Gigaom research, “The central question of 2025 will be:
what are people for in a world that does not need their labor, and where only a minority are needed to
guide the ’bot-based economy? ”
Although there are many predictions and sentiments regarding the futurity of AI and the human
workforce, we just have to wait and see what future holds for us. As you sow so shall you reap.
