UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC STRESS

Academic university life can cause depression, stress, illnesses and low
academic performance and it is not often given the importance and the necessary
accompaniment because, although it has been around for a long time, the
theoretical developments on academic stress are very recent, since only in the
1990s began to investigate and theorize on this subject. Most of the situations that
appear in everyday life have a solution, just by thinking in this way, we begin to
mitigate excess stress. There are a number of useful measures to face this
insistent adversary even in times of crisis: go step by step.

Among the problems that can cause university stress is depression, caused by
the low confidence that is generated when facing the different academic challenges
throughout university life and continually fail in them. In general, these failures are
associated with bad study habits, demotivation and fear that students suffer when
they think about working life after completing university studies. That is why in
order to avoid depression, it is vitally important to be accompanied by family
members, friends and even teachers.

Diseases such as anxiety and eating disorders are another problem generated
by stress and the great pressure that students face during their academic life. In
addition, the high hours of study and late nights can cause insomnia, thus
increasing the diseases mentioned above and decreasing the concentration during
the classes and hours of study. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out alternate
activities for academics that help reduce pressure and stress levels, eat healthy
and sleep well.

Due to the stress, pressure and anxiety generated by university life, students'
academic performance decreases, obtaining poor grades, failing subjects and thus
falling behind in their studies. In most cases, students fail to concentrate at the time
of taking their exams, they are easily distracted and do not retain concepts, this
creates insecurity in future subjects where topics already discussed and mistrust in
their knowledge and criteria as professionals. Therefore, it is important to choose
correctly the university career, that is, a career that motivates and passionate to be
better professionals.

The stress of not knowing about your future and your success as a professional
can make students feel unmotivated and sad. In addition, extreme hours of study
and pressure to get good grades can cause health problems. Academic life is
difficult, there are many concerns that must be faced throughout it, so it is good to
have family, teachers and friends who can help during this process and with which
you can talk and express this type of problem.
