Word Study Through Shared Reading
Site Words:
The site word activity that I chose is Site Word Sand. You get a bucket or container and fill the bottom with sand and
then in another container or bucket or you have the site words on a card or on a picture related to the lesson. The
student picks the card out of one container and spells out the site word in the sand using their finger. This activity
will not only teacher students site words but also how to spell it and develop motor skills. I think this is a fun and
easy interactive activity that students will enjoy. It is very easy to differentiate the level of site words and also
correlate it to lessons. For instance, my theme is oceans, so on top of fish I can write the site words. Also, if you're
worried about sand making a mess, you can always use playdough and have students use a toothpick or tool to
write the word out.
Phonic Rules:
The phonic rule that I am focusing on is, finale e. This is where there are two vowels in a one-syllable word and one
is an e at the of the word. For this phonic rule activity I will fold construction paper into 6 boxes. In the first box I will
have written, Finale -e. In the remaining 5 boxes students will write a word in each box that ends in -e with a picture
that goes along that particular word. This will help students also relate words to pictures.

Word Families:
The word families I chose for Clumsy Crab is -ee and -ll. The activity students will be completing to practice their
word families is attached petals to a flower that has the same word family.
Vocabulary:
The vocabulary I am using for my Shared Reading Plan is Tier 2:
My words are, worried, searching, leader, curious, decide, important. I will create a PowerPoint with Tier 2 vocab
words, a a simple definition, and a picture that correlates to the vocabulary word. I will also encourage my students
to collaborate with a partner to either act out the word or create a sentence using the word. This will increase their
collaboration skills as well as making sure they have complete clarity on the vocabulary words.
