KCRW, a community service of Santa Monica College, provides more than 450,000
listeners each week with an eclectic schedule of news, locally and nationally produced
music, public affairs, political analysis and cultural programs. The station broadcasts
throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties on its primary frequency 89.9 FM, and
provides service to the greater Palm Springs area at 89.3 FM on KCRI/Indio-Palm Springs,
and Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties at 89.1 FM on KCRU/Oxnard-Ventura, and to
Mojave, California City and the Antelope Valley at 88.1 FM on KCRY/Mojave-Antelope
Valley. Translators also carry the signals to Palmdale/Lancaster at 88.3 FM, Ridgecrest at
107.1 FM, Gorman at 89.7 FM, Santa Paula/Moorpark at 102.3 FM, Ojai at 102.1 FM,
Banning at 90.9 FM, Twenty-nine Palms and Yucca Valley at 90.7 FM. Our newest
translator carries KCRW to Lemon Grove and Spring Valley at 89.9FM. As a member-
supported, non-commercial station, its 50,000 subscribers provide KCRW with the largest
single source of financial support. In turn, KCRW and other member stations provide
National Public Radio (NPR) with more than half of its operating budget.

Received them both. I have played them both; my listeners really liked the Danae CD
because her voice is a little different and very nice. The other cd also got some
responses but not as much as the Danae.

“I just received your package, and I have added both “Son Demasiado” and “Pido” to
WMUA’s new Releases Shelf. David Alvarez is squarely in the mainstream of all the
great modern Cuban Music, but at the same time has his own sound, and some nice
arrangements. I have to admit that I tend to run away from anything called “Salsa
Romantica”, but it turns out that I had nothing to fear from Danae. Unlike the inane
lyrics of the salsa monga, her lyrics are very thoughtful. And unlike the singers that
seem to be more than pretty pictures on the album covers, Danae’s voice has some real
character. I’m happy to see that you are handling some of TUMI’s material. I have
always know them to put out lots of very good Cuban music, and unfortunately their
material isn’t always available in the US.”

Acabo de recibir tu paquete y he añadido ambos “Son Demasiado” y “Pido”

a la colección de los nuevos lanzamientos de la WMUA. David Álvarez está
sinceramente en la corriente principal de toda la gran música moderna de Cuba, pero al
mismo tiempo tiene su propio sonido y algunos agradables arreglos. Tengo que admitir
que tiendo a huirle a todo lo que sea llamado “Salsa Romántica”, pero limpia que no
tenía nada que temer de Danae. Diferente la fatua letra de salsa monga, sus letras son
muy dubitativas (en un sentido bueno) y diferentes son también los/las cantantes que
parecen ser más que bonitas fotos en la portada del Cd; la voz de Danae tiene algún
carácter real (esto es como un pequeño elogio). Me alegra ver que están manejando
algunos de los materiales de TUMI. Siempre he sabido de ellos que ponen mucho de
buena música cubana y desafortunadamente sus materiales no siempre están disponibles
en los EU.

KCSM is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, the heart of the fifth largest television and
radio market in the United States with the potential of reaching an audience of more than 6
million people. KCSM TV broadcasts 24 hours a day and is a member of PBS. Its
programming is oriented exclusively towards adult viewers, with early morning and day
programming consisting entirely of college-level telecourses. Prime time and weekend hours
are devoted to PBS programs and locally produced programs. KCSM’s 1.5 million watt
broadcast signal has a coverage area that includes San Mateo, San Francisco, Santa Clara,
