 The students already know that dance is a tool of communication that creates an opportunity to express
ideas, emotions and feelings

Focus Standard for this Lesson: The students will demonstrate understanding on the concept of Philippine
folk dances to achieve level of fitness towards a healthy and satisfying life.

Competencies:
 Describe the nature and background of the dance
 Execute the different dance steps involved in folk dance
 Identify and discuss the fundamental positions of the feet and arms
 Discuss and perform the different folk dance in the Philippines

 After the teacher ask question, they are going to introduced the Philippine folk dance.

Folk Dance – is a participatory dance form which is recreative and ceremonial

Characteristics of Philippine Folk dances
1. In general, dancers stand apart
2. There is little, if any, body contact.
3. Most of the dancers are done by pairs or couples
4. Hand movements play an important part
5. Most dances are in long formation
6. Most dances begin and end with SALUDO
7. Dance from the lowlands have more foreign elements than those found in the uplands
8. War dances are found among non-Christian tribes

3. Use proper costumes (Patadyong, Balintawak with alampay and Maria Clara For Girls only and Barong Tagalog
with black sacks and leather shoes, camiso de chino with pajama type)
4. Follow directions and dance instructions as closely as possible

Classification of Philippine Folk Dances
Francisca Reyes Aquino – Philippine National Artist and Mother of Philippine Folk Dances
Ethnic Dances – are the highest form of art of the Filipino Dances
GEOGRAPHY AND NATURE
1. National Dances – dances found throughout the islands with little or no modification
2. Local Dances – dances found in a specific locality
3. Occupational Dances – depict actions of a particular occupation, industry or human labor
4. Religious/ceremonial – associated with religion, vows and ceremonies
5. Game dances – dances done with play elements
6. Comic dances – dance which depict funny movements intended for entertainment
7. Wedding dance – dances are performed during wedding feasts
8. Courtship Dances – depict the art of courtship or dances with love themes
9. War dance – these show imaginary combat or duel among tribe member

1. Each student will proceed to their group to practice the fundamental Position of Arms and Feet.
2. After the practice, each group will perform and will be graded individually.

PRODUCTIVE GROUP WORK PHASE


Day 2
1. Each group will pick a task to interpret the combination of steps in different Time signatures.
2. The teacher will give the music to each group to practice their task.
3. After the practices, each group will perform in the front of the class.

DAY 3 DANCE CULTURAL PRESENTATION


1. Each group will practice the folk dance assigned to them.
2. The students need to focus to their presentation because this will served as their performance task.
3. The performance of each group will be graded using rubrics.
