Information and Communications Technology (ICT) refers to all the technology used to
handle telecommunications, stresses the role for communication, broadcast media,
intelligent building management systems, audiovisual processing and transmission systems,
and network-based control and monitoring functions. The broadness of ICT covers any
product that will store, retrieve, manipulate, transmit or receive information electronically in
a digital form, e.g. personal computers, digital television, email, communication devices.

The Nature of ICT

ICT is a broad context to understand, it has brought a wider understanding on its use for
socioeconomic and educational development.

One of the ways we can unbundle the term is to consider how digital technologies help
individuals and organization in their daily functions through appliances such as computers,
robots, satellites, telephones and televisions. Together these can store, retrieve, manipulate,
transmit or receive information electronically in a digital form.

ICT FOR BUSINESS

ICT helps companies to expand their business through the use of


Internet and ICT help our society to grow more business, It give
people’s opportunity to work even they are in their home and also
reducing to the need of travel into their works or offices. It can also
help other big company to expand their business through the use of
social media, dealing with their clients through internet.

Study the following examples in categorizing the uses of technology.

Note that some technologies were classified both Information and Communication. This is
because some technologies, aside from using it to communicate and collaborate with diverse
type of people; it also serves as source of information because people who share the same
interest and who belong to the same community may share information.
