gantthead.com End of Project Checklist

The end of project activities coordinate the final delivery of the system to the customer
and shut the project down.

Use this checklist to verify that essential project-end activities have been done. Note:
You should also plan for and allocate time for these activities when developing
your project plan at the beginning of the project

Deployment
Most commercial projects end with the deployment of a system to users. An otherwise
successful project can be let down badly by a poor deployment.

 Is there a detailed written plan for deployment?

 Does the plan include dates and times for all elements of deployment including final
acceptance testing and roll-out to production hardware?

 Can the deployment schedule slip if the development project is late?

 If the deployment schedule cannot be changed, is there sufficient slack time between
the end of development and the start of deployment?

 If deployment cannot slip and there is no slack time in the schedule, have you
brought this risk to the attention of senior management?

 Have all users at all sites had or will they have sufficient training in the system?

 Is there a support system/ help desk in place to assist users? Is it accessible to all
users?

Post-Project Review (PPR)

The Post Project Review identifies areas where the organization can improve its
performance on subsequent projects.

 Was a Post-Project Review held?

 Did the PPR involve each key group within the team (i.e., management, business
analysts, developers, testers, etc.)?

 Did the PPR address trouble spots and identify specific areas for improvement?

 Was the PPR followed up with plans for corrective action, despite the new demands
on the team’s time with new assignments?

Development Environment Wrap-Up

 Has all project source code and documentation been stored in a permanent (e.g.,
backup tape, CD-ROM) format?

 If the project was outsourced, was the source code provided to you as a deliverable
by the contractor?

 Has enough information in the form of documented procedures and design notes
been provided for a project restart, if the project is not going to continue
immediately?
