Good evening parents and students, my name is Astrid Sanchez and I will be your 1 st
grade teacher this year. I would like for you all to look around the room to the people next to
you. These people will become your friends and family over the next 180 or so days. Together
we will create a strong and safe environment for our students. This will be your children's home
away from home. With that said I would like to start off by sharing a little bit about myself. I like
all of you am a parent as well; I have two young children at home who I am very protective
about, I am bilingual fluent in both (English and Spanish), and very focused on my job. I love
my kids, most animals, and outdoor activities. When I'm not working in the class you can find
me out on playground duty. My family and I enjoy hiking and camping trips during school
breaks.
I believe our children's education should always come first and that they know they can
come to me if they need to. I know 1st grade can seem a little scary and a bit overwhelming as
students will be transitioning to a new setting and standard than they are used to. I am here to
help guide them as well as ensure they are given every opportunity to succeed once they move
on to further grades. As your 1st grade teacher, I promise to try my best to ensure you are all
Let us begin by looking at the papers in front of you. Listed there all the ways you may
reach me for questions or concerns you may have. I encourage you to reach out when you feel
the need to talk. Feel free to contact me outside of normal school ours I may not reply or answer
right away but if you leave a message, I will get back to you as soon as possible. Our student's
success counts on us being able to communicate with each other. Listed on there are also our
classes schedule where you can find what time we will be spending on each subject and when
lunch time is. In case you ever need to pull your student out of class for any reason be sure to
notify me so we can come up with a make-up plan for missed work. Every assignment we cover
in this class matters. I will try my best to set time aside for any teacher parent meetings you may
request. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask at any time whether you are dropping
Now to all my students, I want you to know that will be given a voice in this class. If you
ever feel confused or have a question, I encourage you to raise your hand. I will always make
time for you to ask away whether it is right there and then or at the end of the lesson. I want this
classroom to be a safe place for you all to come to. I expect us to treat each other with respect
and listen to one another. We are here to learn but hopefully we can end the year with as a
classroom full of friends. I will stand up for you as I do for my own kids, but I will also hold you
to the same standard I do them. I believe we can all come together and have great year where we
can succeed together. I believe in each, and every one of you to become outstanding students.
Now I know first grade can seem a bit overwhelming and I know a lot of you parents
maybe working full time jobs. I have set aside certain days for after school tutoring and one on
one help. If these times do not work for you, we can set up a time before school, during lunch
where your student will be able to eat and work to catch up, or during free time in class. As

students move further along, they can feel intimidated and may not want to ask for help so it’s
your job as parents to help me keep track of who needs what. If you notice your student is falling
behind, I will work with you both to ensure we are all caught up. 1st grade is setting the standard
Before we go any further, I will be taking questions you may have now. If you would like
to speak in private, please stay after or email me so we can discuss your needs.
