CASE STUDY 2

INTRODUCTION:

This case study tells about the case of a tech company employee Annie where she
has been hired as a fulltime worker and also, she had been an intern of the
company during her college career. It is also said that Annie loves her job and she
has established a strong relationship with all her co-workers during the time of her
work. Due to this action one of her VPs were attracted towards her and she faced
many problems and also explains what she should do to overcome the problem.

PROBLEM DEFINITION:

Some of the problems faced by Annie are:

1. Other workers started to make offhand comments to Annie about the extra
attention towards her by VP.
2. Though he has not done anything the extra attention caused a major issue.
3. Since, there is no explicit reaction Annie could not take this issue to the
higher authorities as it will cause problem for Annie.

CONCEPT RELATED TO SUBJECT:

The following are the some of the concepts related to the subject.
i. Decision making
ii. Patience
iii. Maintaining the work culture
iv. Boldness
v. Forgiveness
vi. Commitment of divine knowledge

ALTERNATIVES:

Some of the alternatives available for this situation are:

Annie should complaint to her management about the activities of the VP but that
does not yield good results as he did not express anything explicitly.

Annie should quit the job being afraid of the offhand comments and the activities
of the VP but that could not be a right decision and shows her weakness and in
spite of divine knowledge it is not effective to quit the job.

Annie should handle the situation by herself and she have not done any mistake
she should be very bold enough towards others and ignore the words of co-workers
and can react if the VP expresses his special care towards Annie explicitly.
BEST ALTERNATIVE:

Annie should choose the third alternative as this shows her boldness and her
commitment towards her work so that the management gets a good opinion about
Annie and have possibilities of supporting her in all situations and even this can
make the VP to get away from Annie.

What course of action should Annie take?

Annie is a newly joined in the organization and might not be aware of the
organization culture. Senior people often interacts more with new comers to make
them comfortable in the organization and evaluate them for the future assignments.
VP has not made any objectionable remark or sought any favor that should compel
Annie to raise an alarm. Annie evaluation of VP behavior seems to be heavily
influenced by her co-workers opinions. Co-workers opinion might be out of
jealousy or their personal grudges against VP or just for fun. Reporting the
incidents base on assumptions may jeopardize her relationship with the manager
and earn a bad image for her in the organization.

She should tell her co-workers to avoid such remarks as she is getting
uncomfortable to perform work related activities due to their behavior. In case,
Annie is uncomfortable with VP behavior then she should stop participating in out
of office events with the VP and she should avoid interacting with him on matters
other than official works. If VP still insists to meet her or make objectionable
advances, she can report the issue to grievance redressal committee in the
organization with evidences.
CONLUSION:

Thus, by choosing this alternative Annie could be happy with her job without
worrying about anything and she can lead a happy and successful job environment
as she follows the ethical values.
