Rationale, Overview and Objectives of the Activity

The DA-Biotechnology Program and other research funding agencies encourage submission
of research proposals on Applied Biotechnology Research. This proposal writing workshop aims to
strengthen the writing capacity of researchers throughout the Philippines in coming up with quality
and relevant full research proposals on livestock biotechnology ready for submission to the DA-
Biotechnology Program for possible funding.

This proposal writing workshop aims to enable selected biotechnology researchers on


preparing relevant research proposals on livestock biotechnology in line with the DA- Biotechnology
Program's Call for Proposals. One of the objectives of the Livestock Biotechnology Center is to
coordinate with universities to organize and host conduct of research proposal writing workshop,
conduct research proposal critiquing, and promote submission of livestock project proposals that are
aligned with Livestock Biotechnology RDE to SUCs. In addition, this writing workshop aims to find
possible biotechnology experts to expand the existing pool of the Program.

OBJECTIVE:

The workshop is designed to assist researchers, scientists and academe in state colleges and
universities, government agencies, local government units and research institutions in Zambales and
adjacent provinces from different scientific fields of expertise in coming up with well-written full
research proposals on livestock biotechnology ready for submission to DA-Biotechnology Program
and other funding agencies.

MECHANICS
 Each workshop will be held for three days including travel time. It is composed of a two-day
workshop with lectures and research proposal writing.
 Each workshop is intended to accommodate a maximum of thirty (30) participants.
 The participants shall come from the fields of veterinary medicine, animal science, biology
and related fields.
 Each workshop will consist of lectures, writing and presentations of research proposals by
participants. Participants will be assisted by experienced mentors.

 At the end of the workshop, the participant is expected to produce a well-written capsule or
full research proposal ready for possible funding under the DA-Biotechnology Program or
other funding agencies.

REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Workshop participants must:

 be able and enthusiastic to write


 have knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
 bring a personal laptop computer/netbook during the workshop
 bring a draft research proposal on livestock biotechnology
 come up with a full research proposal
