AC Signals and their Measurements

Teacher : Eng . Shihda Zaheda.

Student Name : Aseel Abu-Rayyan

Objectives:
a.To Learn the operation of an oscilloscope.
b.To learn how to generate and AC signal using a signal
generator.
c. Become familiar with using digital multimeter in AC
circuits, and
d. Measuring Periodic time, Frequency and Amplitude of a
certain waveform with an oscilloscope.

Materials:
- 1signal generator.
- 2oscilloscope .
- 3multimeter .
-4Ground .
-5Wires .

Procedures And Results:

. 1 I Set the signal generator frequency to 500Hz, and the
amplitude to 5Vrms for a sinusoidal signal.
. 2I Connect the signal generator output to one of the
oscilloscope inputs as shown .
X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 5: us /Div

And then i continued as table 1for the

valus that in it .

For the value 1000HZ :

X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 5: us /Div

For the value 2000HZ :

X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 5: us /Div
For the value 3000HZ :

X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 5: us /Div

The Result of the previous :

. 3 For the same sinusoidal signal, i change

the frequency to 1000Hz and the amplitude
to 1Vrms,

X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 1: us /Div
For the value 2Vrms:

X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 1: us /Div

For the value 3Vrms:

X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 2: us /Div

For the value 4Vrms:

X Scale 1: us /Div
Y Scale 2: us /Div
The Result of the previous :

AC Circuit Measurements :
. 1 I Connect the circuit as shown
. 2 I Calculate the associated current values for each resistor from
the voltage measurements.

The Result of the previous :

Calculation :
Ipp = Vpp / R 10 = 1mA .
Ipp =Vpp / R 4.54 = 1mA .

Ip = Ipp 5= 2/ mA.
Ip = Ipp 2.27= 2/ mA.

Irms = Vrms / R 1.11= 1mA .

Irms= Vrms / R 1.11 = 1mA.

Conclusion :
- 1 The frequncy of each resistor is the frequncy of
the source .

- 2The sum of Vrms of resistor equal the Vrms of

the source .

- 3Immediate relationship between Vrms and Vp

Vrms = Vp / sqare ) .2(
