Should we support Affirmative Action?

1. CONS

a.) Beginning chapter 5 (pg. 143) you can see the discrimination, and it is because it

explains that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology did a study in which they sent

names invented by them in this case they were names for both white and black people to

Businesses requesting employees, and it was discovered that 50% of the names that

sounded for white people had a very high probability that these businesses would call

them for any type of interview than those that had names of black people, which is very

unfair, because as a black person with many years of work experience they deserved the

same treatment as a white person who may not have some kind of experience.

b.) There was a report by the Death Penalty Information Center which showed that since

1988 the federal authorities had asked for the death penalty for 382 people, 278 of whom

were accused of being a minority, more than 73%, and those who were sentenced to

death, and the 59 people were people of color who were also awaiting their death
sentence. Also, homicides against white people in California were more likely to receive

the death penalty than those who were not white, and it is mentioned that people in the

judicial system think that the life of white Americans is worth much more than from any

other non-white person.

c.) For many years, African Americans suffered from slavery and violence, considering

them one of the poorest races, and their skin color. The brutal practices of violence that

the whites generated to the blacks was simply incredible, since they were chained,

flogged, and many times they were also lynched, to "prevent" them from going to rebel

against them one day, many of the practices were made by ordinary white people, such as

elite people and founders of that years such as the first president of the United States

George Washington, Thomas Jefferson among others who participated in these "proud"

acts

2. PROS

a.) The United States will always be led by the white race since they consider themselves

"the strongest and richest race" but this has not taken away from the fact that

African-Americans have had a little recognition and that people began to create

associations, groups of Aid, political movements such as "Black Live Matter" being one

of the best known campaigns within the United States that is against violence against

African Americans. Barack Obama is known to be the first black president in the history
of the United States and (on page 166) the book talks about the 2008 presidential

campaigns in which many attacks were carried out directed at President Obama, many

movements against him. They were made as the "Vote Right, Vote White", but Obama

still managed to win the presidency of the United States, and made others see that your

skin color, your race, does not define your future.

b.) It is known that if you are black and live in American society, discrimination will

always be part of your day since it is something that every race has to deal with, but even

more so African-Americans, whites will always be the strong race but this does not mean

that the others races, specifically minorities revolt and that over the years, even decades,

there are important changes that will favor everyone.
