Exam Requirements

In order to become licensed as an educator for the Nevada Department of Education, one

must pass the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators that examines the academic skills in

reading, writing, and mathematics. Colleges and universities use the Praxis Core tests to evaluate

individuals who wish to be admitted into teacher education programs. The passing score for the

Praxis Core Exam in Nevada are, Math test: 150, Reading: 156, and Writing: 162.

Exam Preparation

The Praxis Core tests requires the students’ preparation in order to achieve the passing

scores by the state. However, I honestly did not prepare myself enough while taking this Practice

test. I was aware of what the exam was about and why it was so important to take it before

entering to an educational program because I read this in the links provided by one of my

Education teachers. The technique that I used to prepared for this exam resulted ineffective

towards my learning. I used a book that I have from the CSN Cheyene Campus where it taught

me the ways that I could pass the Praxis. It also had some practices questions, but it did not have

the correct answers on the back of the book so I could compare once I finish with the practice

questions. Nevertheless, I already know what I did wrong this time so I can avoid this mistake

again when preparing for the actual Praxis tests.

Exam Results

The results that I got after taking this Practice Core test were not that favorable of what I

was expecting them. In reading, I scored 34% range, which that means that I most likely to fail

the reading section. However, in the writing portion I got a better score, 45% range, I know it is

not the best one, but I feel it may give me more hope that I am going to pass that section. In the

Math portion, I scored 39% range, which it also means that I am most likely to pass as well. The

results showed me an idea of what my results are going to look like if I don’t prepare well

enough when I take the official Praxis Core Exam.

Future Exam Preparation

After taking the Practice Core test practices, I realized that I really need to prepare myself

to pass the Praxis Core exams. I will take some strict strategies to help enhance my

understanding of the questions while taking the official Praxis Core. Since I am still learning

English, I feel that I did not do well because of this. For this reason, I would like to work with a

tutor in order to improve my reading skills in English. Also, I will study the Praxis Prep websites

that my education teachers have provided me. Furthermore, I am planning to the take the

Practice Core tests rather than C-BEST exam because I know have a picture in my mind how

they are.
