Que.1.a) An industry is having contract demand of 1000 kVA. The minimum billing demand is 75% of
the contract demand. The connected load of the plant is 2000 kVA. The recorded demand and power
factor for the month of March 2003 is 1200 kVA and 0.8. The monthly consumption is 2.0 lakh units. The
average load and maximum load of the industry is 700 kW and 900 kW respectively. Calculate
1. Minimum billing demand of the industry
2. Load factor of the plant
3. Demand factor of the plant

Que.1.b) What is heat transfer? Briefly explain the modes of heat transfer.

OR

Que. 2.a) Write a short note on Sankey Diagram used for Material and Energy Balance.

Que.2.b) Explain the salient features of the Energy Conservation Act 2001 in brief.

Que.3.a) Explain the ESCO Model for the financing of the Energy Efficiency projects in detail.

Que.3.b) List steps involved in ‘detailed energy audit’.

OR

Que.4.a) Write Ten key steps in “Monitoring and targeting” that you will undertake as an energy manager
in your plant .

Que.4.b) A 100 tonnes per day capacity chlor-alkali plant produced 30,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of
caustic soda with annual energy consumption of 90 million kWh in the reference year 2009-10. During
the year 2011- 12, the annual production was 25,000 TPA, with an annual energy consumption of 80
million kWh. Calculate the Plant Energy Performance.

Que.5.a) What do you mean by better ‘load management’ from the point of view of electric supply
utility?

Que.5.b) The following single line diagram explain the location of 100 kW heater load and 200 kW
motor, which is at 200 mtrs away from 415V, LT bus using suitable cable. The main incoming power
factor of system is 0.85 lag. Calculate the rating of capacitors to improve pf of incomer to 0.9 lag.
OR

Que.6.a) What are the benefits of Power Factor improvement? Explain Demand Side Management.

Que.6.b) What are the points to be considered while selecting an engine in a DG set? Explain their
importance?
