Nielsen Media Research Case

study
1. Where do you think the problems lie at Nilsen?

Nielsen failed the basic strategy and was unable to achive its desire goal in
given time frame.in my personal opinion the the problem or the issue basically
lied at nielson itself as they, nielson didn’t went with the complete market study
and nielson didn’t went to undertake comphrehensive planning exercise each
and every year. They also didn’t meet environmental changes or the expectations
of their important stakeholders or clients. On the other side plans lacked well
defined framework aswell as goals and plans weren’t align. Time was changing
and there was a gradual shift of views from televisons to digital devices people
were watdching news and movies online and the local netwrokwere asking for
even more figures than the previos year.nielson failed to provide complete and
correct report to its client and like always nielson once again failed to prodice
correct and fair TV ranking for their business of television to put together
thoroughly their network for air.

2. Do you think developing a strategy map would be a good idea for Nielsen?

In my personal opinion I would think that developing a strategy map would be of

great help for the organization as it would give pictoral as well as a clear pictures
of all th layouts and their objectives that they would would be havinnh=g issues
with. This would be helping themin saving their plans and aligning them with
great efficiency to achive operational goals.without any map or a pictoral
approacg itsnot easy to understand but making of a strategy plan will help
business to line their goals in correct order. Without a diagrams its way more
work for any organization to toachives it hoals.as in this case creating a map
would be of great help and have listed some of its benefits below
 Strategy maps capture and talk the process
 Strategy map lets you better manage results
 Strategy maps capture the required elements of intent, motivation and
drivers of change
 Strategy maps elevate conversation from operations to process
 Strategy maps help you efficiently organize behavior and coordinate
expenditure.

3. If you were David Calhoun what kind of planning process might you
implement to fix this problem?
To deal with getting the truth larger, we'd introduce a standing model that can be
followed in the long run so the problem won't occur any more. I will set up a contingency
plant that can deal with any other issues that the company may face in the future

Contingency planning is a plan of action designed to help an entity respond efficiently to

a significant potential match or circumstance which may or may not happen now as
well. From time to time, a contingency model is referred to as Plan B, since it may also
be an option for an intervention if the expected results fail to materialise. Contingency
planning is an aspect of the sustainability of business operations, the recovery of
accidents and risk management.

The following example of making a plan could help eae the answer.

1. Establish implementation of contingency planning policies – A systematic

coverage offers typical authority and coaching to improve a magnificent
contingency plan.

2. Conduct the business enterprise influence analysis-This business impact

analysis helps to be aware of the essential factors which support the vision /
mission of the organization.

3. Identify preventive controls- Steps taken to reduce the life cycle cost for risk and
to improve the smoothness of the functions of the company.

4. Creating contingency plans- Plans that can recover usable unexpected slumps.

5. Ensure plan preparation, training and drills- Preparation validates recovery skills,
while coaching trains recovery personnel for program activation and program
practice identifies planning gaps; together, the things to do boost plan
performance and overall company readiness.

6. Ensure consistency of the plan-The graph must be a home record that is revised
several times to keep up to date with program enhancements and organizational
changes

Pinnacle Machine Tool

Company
1. What steps in the decision-making process have Don Anglos and Pinnacle
taken? Which ones have they not completed?
Dos Anglos and pinnacle took no action to preserve decision-making process. Luckily they managed to
accomplish two moves. First they were able to do "Recognition of Decision Necessity" where Anglos
could reach out to the company's challenges and opportunities. They also conducted "Diagnosis and
Cause Analysis" where the issue is defined by looking at the cause of the company's slow market decline
and how it can fix this situation with an choice such as purchasing Hoilman Inc. the steps they were
unable to accomplish are "Creation of alternatives and Selection of Desirable Alternatives."

2. Which decision-making style best describes Don’s approach: directive,

analytical, conceptual, or behavioral? Which style best describes Sam Lodge’s
approach?
According to the event, pinnacle's CEO is hypothetical as he considered other people's view, opportunity
for more development without acquisition and his head. On the other hand, the approach taken by sam
was empirical, as he also considered time, trust of investors, market position of customers and results of
competition.

3. Would you recommend that Pinnacle attempt to acquire Hoilman? If so, why?
If not, what alternatives would you suggest?
No, I am not sure that this new course of action would meet the needs of the company or that of the
customer. I would suggest retaining the division of production and expanding the division of service and
continuing as a manufacturing business, finding ways to minimize costs while maintaining quality.
Explore other joint adventure opportunities too.

2. What role do you expect the Internet to play in the corrugated box industry?
What are some ways that Edmunds could better use the Internet to foster
growth?

We expect the web to be the easiest way to quicker and more widely grow the
corrugated box industry. Since the network is transmissions without borders it can
transmit the information in excessively seconds for a lond distance. Edmund is able
to use internet to advertise his own business. This is the easiest way to accomplish
that far and large. He may also use the internet to accept international or domestic
orders from customers. It can compress the time and trade anywhere in the globe.
3. Which of Porter’s competitive strategies would you Recommend that Edmunds
follow? Why? Which of the strategies do you think would be least likely to
succeed?
I do not think he will put the price leadership and therefore the focus approach into action. First of all,
he wanted professional young employees. Nowadays, low-cost looking for brightest and best young
people in the city is difficult. Second, other manufacturers were investing in less often breaking down
higher-quality devices, thereby needing less parts from Edmunds. Technology advancement would put
Edmund in a disadvantageous position. I may suggest that Edmunds adopt the differentiation strategy as
the goodwill of Edmunds supported its reputation for reliability and excellent, personalized service. He
feels it is very beneficial.
