Who was Otto Hutt? Ever since the 18th century, jewelry, watches and

articles of daily use, mainly in gold and silver, have

been produced in Pforzheim, known locally as the

gateway to the Black Forest, both in small manu-

facturing companies and also on an industrial

scale. The city has rightly been awarded the acco-

lade "Gold City". Today about 80% of all jewelry

exported from Germany still comes from Pforz-

heim. And this is where in 1920 a man established

a company specializing in pocket utensils and fine

writing instruments in silver. His name was Otto

Hutt. Very much a child of his times, he was influ-

enced by the design concept of the Bauhaus. The

predominance of simple forms given over entirely

to functionality were characteristic of his designs.

In terms of their craftsmanship, the Design 06

models feature impressive barrels and caps which,
like all other components, are meticulously crafted
from solid material. The special spring clip is
a distinctive feature of the Otto Hutt brand. For
Design 06, this clip has been optimized even further.
Its rounded contours and surfaces are milled from
the solid material in a complex process using a
diamond tool specially made for this shape. The
end result is a perfect, organic contour. The
impressive lacquered surfaces of the Design 06 are
created using a special multilayer process. This
gives all writing utensils in this series a delightfully
pleasant, velvety feel.
