Key Informant Interview with teachers at the communities

Education/ECCD/WASH at school/Child Protection

1. Can you tell us about the flood damage to children and schools as well as the education activities at school? How
did the flood affect the present education system?

• It is Government Boys High School Saleh Wala, UC hanjrai 6.


• Some cracks were observed in the walls of classroom and floor was partially damaged but army repaired it
• Due to This flood only 30% students are not attending school regularly as they are busy in rehab with their parents. As
some students are engaged in daily labor work to support their family.

2. What are the current situation to children, teachers and schools?

• The school is repaired by army , Staff succeeded in preserving the school record .
• Student attendance at schools disturbed only 30 %.
• No furniture for students
• Boundary wall exists
3. Are there children that are not sent to school (1 - yes and 0 - no) or cannot continue their education activities? If
yes, why, can you list out the main reasons?

• After flood many students left school because:


 They lost their school kits
 They lost their clothes
 They are working with their parents in reconstruction of their houses

4. What are your suggestions in term of necessary facilities at the safe place and ECCD center for the children 3-5?
• Latrine should be installed as soon as possible in CFS because In most of CFS there is no washroom facility and
children are facing problems
• There is no any medical facility in the safe place so first aid boxes should be provided to the caregivers and should
be given orientation on its utilization
• Drinking water

5. Who do you think that are available and able to teach/provide psychology support to children at safe place and
ECCD centre? Who are the most appropriated? Why? Do we need to have separated safe places for boy/girl?
• There are teachers and caregivers who can provide psychological support to children if they can be given some
technical support on how to deal with psychological issues
• A professional trained person will be appropriate to facilitate children in CFS
• Boys and girls are easy and comfortable in the same place (No gender biasness)
6. What kind of Gov and other agencies' sufficient support that is already in place? In the short-term? In the long-
term?
• Infrastructure is available
• Teachers are available in school
• Teachers are getting Paid by Government Education Department

7. What are the most 5 most needed assistance that you recommend to ensure the attendance of primary students,
and to ensure the safety of children 3-5?

• It would be a good idea to look for the possibilities of working with government schools and improve their physical
and other requires conditions under Plan’s School Improvement Program (SIP) with at least the schools that are
potential ECCD graduate receivers. It was very strongly felt that the area requires attention of those who have some
knowledge of education and schools.
• Awareness sessions with parents on the importance of education are needed
• Sessions with children who are enrolled in CFS but not going to school
• Establishing ECCD centers for this age group is strongly recommended
