To Whom It May Concern:

It is my pleasure and privilege to recommend Erica Unroe as a candidate for the music educator
position at your school. I taught Erica from 6th grade to 10th grade in Alleghany County before
leaving to teach in another school district, but reconnected with Erica as she entered college as
a music education major. Since then I have followed her collegiate career with pride, even
offering her summer and fall jobs as a part time instructor with band camp and marching band.
Now, as she is graduating, I could not be more impressed with the young woman she has grown
to be and the master teacher that I know she will continue to become.

Erica is a very well-rounded musician, highly skilled on her primary instrument, in addition to
being well prepared to teach brass, percussion, strings, and general music. She thrived in
non-traditional studies such as teaching music through ukulele. She comes to you with the
training needed to teach any level of student from beginner through expert and in a variety of
methods.

More importantly than her training, however, I would like to speak to her character. Erica is
trustworthy, driven, and a true team player. She will eagerly become a contributing member of
your school community. Her personality is perfect for the classroom, high energy and down to
earth at the same time. This combination allows her to form a natural rapport with students of all
ages, connecting to their backgrounds and keeping them engaged. Erica is a “go-getter”,
seeking out opportunity and challenge and always performing to her best abilities. This year I
hired Erica to come and work with my students for band camp, which consists of approximately
80 hours of work over a few weeks. My students loved her instantly, and they formed
relationships past the contracted time to where Erica would come in after school during the fall
for sectionals if the student leadership contacted her requesting it. When I was unexpectedly
unable to come to rehearsal she came and helped my assistant director run things as efficiently
as a licensed and experienced teacher would have. I trust her implicitly, and would hire her to
work for me in an instant if it were possible!

In summary, I highly recommend Erica Unroe to you, without reservations. She will be an
invaluable resource to your school and a brilliant teacher for your students. Please feel free to
email or call me if you have any questions or need more follow up information.

Sincerely,

Becky Ford
