Version 5.3 Features 1
Configurations
WALKair Ethernet is implemented using a 10/100BaseT-interface card. The
Ethernet traffic is translated to Frame Relay protocol and transmitted from the
Base Station at peak rate of up to 4Mbps.
WALKair supports the following network scenarios.
Terminal Station
Ethernet FR- FRoE1
V35/X.21
Ethernet Y Y Y
Base FR- Y Y* Y*
Station V35/X.21
FRoE1 Y Y* Y*
NOTE:
An FR interface at the BS, configured with peak rate of 4 Mbps, can operate only with 4
Mbps Ethernet/FR cards at the TS. If there is a 2 Mbps card at the TS, the Ethernet
interface card or the FR interface at the BS must be configured as 2 Mbps.

Physical Interface
10/100BaseT interface is complied with IEEE 802.3 standard.
RJ45 connector is used for Ethernet port.
Maximum port rate is 10Mbps/100Mbps.
Peak traffic rate over the air is 2Mbps or 4Mbps (configurable). 2Mbps is
the default value.
Routing - FR Translation
WALKair 1000's Ethernet port checks each Ethernet frame from the LAN that
bears its MAC address and determines the destination DLCI according to the
source subnet or VLAN. WALKair 1000 encapsulates the packet as a RFC1490
IP and sends it towards the air using a predefined DLCI-Subnet or DLCI-VLAN
tag-mapping configuration.
IP packets received from the FR network in RFC 1490 IP format are forwarded
over the air and de-encapsulated from the FR header. They are then assigned
an Ethernet header according to the ARP table and forwarded towards the
LAN.
Multiple DLCIs can be assigned to the Ethernet port in this way. The user can
configure the preferred routing e.g. according to either VLAN tagging or
subnets.
WALKair 1000 supports 250 tags at the Base Station and 30 tags at the
Terminal Station that can be mapped to 250 or 30 DLCIs accordingly. Each
VLAN tag has 64 entries in the ARP table.
Subnet-DLCI Mapping
IP packets coming from the LAN towards the air are stripped from the
Ethernet headers, encapsulated with FR headers and assigned to the
appropriate DLCI, according to their source/destination subnets.
IP packets coming from the air towards the LAN are stripped from the FR
headers, encapsulated with Ethernet headers and forwarded towards the LAN.
Version 5.3 Features 5
ARP Reply
The BS Ethernet card replies to ARP requests for any IP address on one of the
subnets configured for this card, in case the DLCI associated with this subnet is
in operation status active.
ARP request containing VLAN tag for any IP address replies by the Ethernet
card, in case this VID is configured for this card and it’s associated DLCI
operation status is active.
In both cases, only ARP requests from the Default Gateway, which is
configured for this DLCI, are replied.
ARP Table
Separate ARP tables are kept for each VLAN on the Ethernet port. Each table
actually contains one entry (for the default gateway).
Additional tables for non-VLAN address will have a size of 250 entries.
The address of the station originating the ARP request (which is the Default
gateway IP address) will be added to the ARP table if a reply is sent.
ARP table entries will be kept for 20 Minutes after their last use.
ARP Request
WALKair Ethernet port initiates ARP request towards the LAN when a packet
arrives from the air, which has an IP destination address that doesn’t exist in the
ARP table. In the special case of the Ethernet port on BS, where the only
destination IP address is the one of the default gateway for every DLCI, an ARP
request with the default gateway’s IP address will be issued (if required).
An ARP request for packets coming from a DLCI associated with a VID will
contain a VLAN tag.
ICMP support
WALKair Ethernet port issues a “Net Unreachable” Message towards the air
when a message is send to IP address different from the default gateway, and
ARP Reply is not received from LAN. The source IP address in these messages
will be an address from the destined subnet that is different from the default
gateway address.
NOTE:
When a message is send to default gateway, and ARP Reply is not received, No
ICMP message is sent.
Version 5.3 Features 7
IP Broadcasts/Multicasts
The BS Ethernet port forwards all IP broadcast and multicast packets towards
the air, only if the source IP address is of the default gateway.
In the VLAN the IP broadcast/multicasts packets from the air are transmitted
over the LAN with the appropriate MAC address.
BOOTP/DHCP Handling
The BOOTP/DHCP messages receive no special treatment.
NOTE:
In order to receive the DHCP replay messages as a broadcast, the broadcast field
in the DHCP request must set first. This should be done in the TS side.
8 WALKair 1000 Ver 5.3 Operation Manual
Configuration
WALKair 1000 supports the following network scenarios:
At the CPE side, the Terminal Station supports one or two QBRI interface
cards.
At the Network side, the Base Station supports an E1 interface card with V5.2
software. Two E1 cards are installed at the BS-BU in order to support Primary
and Secondary Signaling protection.
Each BS-BU is a single V5.2 interface to the public switch.
The BS-BU V5.2 software includes V5Core (AN side, V5.2) and a set of V5
applications.

will be transmitted out of band in the EOC.
Two E1 cards are connected at the BS-BU, Primary and Secondary.
10 WALKair 1000 Ver 5.3 Operation Manual
Signaling Multiplexing
ISDN BRI signaling is transferred out of band via the Embedded Operation
Channels (EOC).
For the downlink direction (from the BS to the TS), each received
signaling message is routed and transferred to its corresponding TS. At
the TS, the signaling message is directed to the appropriate QBRI and U
interface ports.
For the uplink direction, each signaling message is transferred, as is, to
the BS-BU via the EOC channels. At the BS, signaling is routed and
directed to the V5.2 interface.
Signaling messages are routed using the following user port identifiers:
L3 address / EF address and interface ID at the BS V5.2 interface
TS customer ID
L3 address / EF address / BRI port number and Interface ID at the TS
QBRI interface
The destination address parameters of the message header are changed
(interface ID and L3/EF address) as a result of the routing process.
Restrictions
The following restrictions apply:
Packet (FR and X25) over D channel is currently not supported.
128 Kbps bonding is currently not supported.

3.5GHz Rasters
Description
In order to allow the operator to utilize the maximum allocated spectrum, and
due to the fact that allocated spectrum is different from one market to another,
three spectrum rasters could be used.
Each of the three rasters determines the RF channel centers in 1.75MHz
spacing steps.
Raster 1 and Raster 2 are shifted in 0.875MHz from each other.
Raster 3 has an additional frequency index added to raster 2 as shown on:
Figure 5: 3.5GHz Up Link Rasters and Figure 6: 3.5GHz Down Link Rasters
CF - Central Frequency
N = 0,1,2,3 ...
F0 CF Raster 2 3502.125MHz
F0 CF Raster 3 3500.375MHz
F0 CF Raster 1 3501.25MHz
CF of Raster 1 Fn = 3501.250MHz + N x 1.75MHz
CF - Central Frequency
N = 0,1,2,3 ...
The BS transmits (and receives) in a manually configured raster via LCI or NMS.
The Factory default is Raster 1.
The terminal stations automatically synchronize and establish a link with either
rasters.
When Air linked is established and BS was configured with raster 2 or raster 3 a
display to the TS screen will be:
“Sync on RF Band with index (N-1) of raster 2 = N of raster 3 in frequency
[frequency up, frequency down]. “
If raster 1 was selected in the BS the TS display will be: “Sync on RF Band with
index in frequency [frequency up, frequency down]. “
NOTE:
Whenever switching rasters the BU must be Disabled and Enable in order that the new
raster will be active.
16 WALKair 1000 Ver 5.3 Operation Manual
Specification
Software Compatibility
Raster 1 is supported in all WALKair versions.
Raster 2 is supported from Version 5.0 and on.
Raster 3 is supported from Version 5.1 and on.
Restrictions
If an operator utilizing Raster 1, and desire to utilize Raster 2 or 3 instead, it is
recommended that all WALKair systems in the given area change the raster at
the same time, in order to avoid overlapping of radio channels.
Version 5.3 Features 17
VOP Mechanism
The mechanism that cope with free space loss and flat fading is the Remote
Terminal Power Control (RTPC), this mechanism assure that the received
power at the Base Station is according to the value defined in the Rx modem
working point.
When working with VOP, the RX level parameter at the BS is inactive; the
actual Rx power level will be determined according to the following
parameters:
The distance of the TS from the BS
Additional fading of the RF path
The saturation curve of the TS
The maximum receiving power of the BS
VOP starts its operation by requesting from each one of the TS connected to a
specific BS-BU to start transmitting power at such a level that the received
power at the BS will be –84 dBm, then, gradually the mechanism will try to
increase the received power by asking that from the TS, the upper limit of the
Rx power is –76 dBm.
This VOP process tuning is about 15 min. long.
While trying to get more power from the Terminal Station, the VOP
mechanism will examine continuously the saturation curve of the TS in order
to keep the required back off from saturation levels, this back off is defined by
the 64 QAM modulation method.
18 WALKair 1000 Ver 5.3 Operation Manual
Close terminals will be able to reach the BS at the upper limit allowed by VOP
and by this will achieve a better C/I and as a result of it a better fade margin.
Distant Terminals or Terminals installed in difficult conditions will not be able to
reach the BS with such a large margin but in case they can reach the Base
Station above the lower limit they will still be able to allow the link with the
required C/I for a BER of 10-9.
An additional advantage of VOP is the capability of transmitting more power
from the TS than the defined in the nominal value. This is permitted because of
the continuous examination of the saturation curve of the terminal station.
The VOP mechanism has impact on uplink performance (especially C/I uplink)
therefore the network planning tool should support uplink power control
simulation.
NOTE:
Disabled VOP at the TS will take place 5 minutes after link initialization; the uplink power
level will increase from –84dBm to the configured working point.
Version 5.3 Features 19
1. Rx1=-80dbm , C/I+N= 25 dB
TS4
TS3 2. Rx2 = -80dbm , C/I+N= 25 dB
The example above shows two scenarios of VOP operation in 3.5GHz cell:
With VOP – VOP is enabled.
Without VOP – VOP is disabled.
It can be seen that the VOP improves the C/I of most of the TS’s while it still
keeps the link with the TS1, which is installed in the edge of the sector.
20 WALKair 1000 Ver 5.3 Operation Manual
At Terminal Station:
The TS requirement for VOP enable on BS (for that specific TS) is:
SW version from V4 on.
NOTE:
If a TS MUX is in use and configured, automatically the VOP will be disabled for the TS.
Management Control
The enabling/disabling control button of the VOP options is available from Ver
5.1 at the BS-BU window. In order that the changes will take place the BS-BU
must be reset.

DESCRIPTION
The PD-LPM-0102EP is a 15 Watt DC/DC converter module especially designed for HDSL/xDSL remote power feeding applications (on LTU).
The module operates from 36 to 72Vdc input voltage and provides two independent balanced outputs of 120V/60mA, isolated from the input.
The output voltage can be reduced, in the range of 105-120V, by adding an external resistor. Reduction of the output voltage to 105-120V may
be required in order to allow for HDSL communication signal superimposing, without exceeding the maximum 120V standard limitation. A high
precision current limiting circuit is implemented on each output. This feature enables delivery of maximum power through the line while
maintaining the TNV safety requirements of maximum 60mA current. The module also provides report lines, which deliver information
regarding unbalanced outputs (deviation of more than 20%) and overload condition of each output. The overload protection circuits on each
output are independent, and allow for one output to work normally while the other is overloaded. The PD-LPM-0102EP is designed to work
optimally while working in conjunction with the PowerDsine PD-NPM-03xx module series. Designed for ETSI specific requirements, the
PD-LPM-0102EP simplifies integration and reduces overall system dimensions, cost and time to market.

Pin # Function Description
1 120V Output1 RTN Output power ground #1.
2 120V Output1 Output power #1. To ensure proper operation under large load changes, a minimum 10µF Aluminum
electrolytic capacitor in parallel to a 1µF film capacitor must be connected.
3 Earth GND Pin 3 should be connected to system GND. Output power is balanced in reference to pin 3.
4 Overload 1 Report line, active when output #1 is in overload or short circuit condition. See Note 1.
5 Overload 2 Report line, active when output #2 is in overload or short circuit condition. See Note 1.
6 Voltage Adjust Connection of a resistor between pin 6 and 8 enables reducing both output voltages simultaneously in the
range of 105-120V. The resistor needs to be 1/8W rated or higher.
7 Earth GND Pin 7 should be connected to system GND. Output power is balanced in reference to pin 3.
8 120V Output2 Output power #2. To ensure proper operation under large load changes, a minimum 10µF capacitor
(electrolytic or other) must be connected.
9 120V Output2 RTN Output power ground #2.
10 -48V RTN Positive Input line connection.
11 -48V Input Negative Input line connection.

14 Unbl. RTN Return line for Unbl. See Note 2.
15 Unbl. Report line. Active when output voltage (either or both) become unbalanced in reference to the GND
Ground. This may occur when there is an unwanted current path to ground (leakage). Note 2.
17 Inhibit Logic input, referenced to the -48V input (Pin 11). Voltage above the specified threshold will inhibit the
operation of the unit, and current consumption on input will drop to a very low level. Leaving this input
unconnected or tied to a low logic level will enable the unit.
