Solar panel and voltage regulator is used for giving the power
supply. Solar rays are not constant for all the time therefore
solar panel gives an unregulated DC power supply. Voltage
regulator is used to convert it from unregulated supply to
regulated 5V supply which could then be given to
microcontroller.

Microcontroller works as the brain in this work. The signal

The same signal is send to display. If it is below the required
level it shows “Moisture low”. If the moisture level is below
set point, a %V signal is sent to relay which actuates it. When
the moisture level again reaches the requirement a signal is
sent again to relay and pump is turned off.

ATmega328P is a microcontroller in which 6 pins out of 14


digital input and output pins are employed as PWM outputs.
This microcontroller also has 6 analog inputs, an ICSP header,
a USB connection, 16 MHz ceramic resonator, a power jack
and a reset button. This IC is used for controlling whole the
process of this Automatic Plant Watering System. D7 pin of
the microcontroller is given the sensor signal which samples it
to 1024 samples.

Soil Moisture sensor- This sensor senses the volumetric


content of water in the soil. It consists of two pongs which are
inserted inside the soil. They make a conducting path when
some electrical signal is given to them. LM358 is used to
make the soil moisture sensor and it acts as a comparator. A
pot is used to change the sensitivity of the sensor. Fig. 4. (b)

III. RESULTS
The design of an automatic Irrigation system is proposed in
