Performance Review – UNIT 28 - MUSIC VIDEO

PRODUCTION
This document should be completed at the end of the project. This allows students to
record the reflection and evaluation of their own learning through the project and to
consider their individual performance.

Name: Jack O’Hara

Project title: Down by the River – Music Video

• What was the project supposed to accomplish?

The project was supposed to accomplish the aims of making a music video in a
group with a song of our choice.

• Did the project succeed in its aims? How do you know? Specifically, please
outline any evaluation and assessment undertaken.

With the time frame and the difficulties we faced during this time, weather and
COVID-19, I feel as if we did this to the best of our ability, meaning we would have
accomplished our aim. We weren’t able to film the music video again as we weren’t
permitted to, meaning we had to use the initial test run that we had shot. This
meant that we weren’t able to correct a lot of the difficulties and errors made in the
test shoot, which we would have corrected if given a chance.

• What things do you think worked well and why? Evaluate all aspects of the
project (e.g. initial inception, project activities and project outcomes) from a
range of perspectives.

I think that the idea and concept of this project were good ideas and if we were
allowed proper time to fix it up in the way that we wanted to, the project would look
much better and more professional than it currently does.

• What problems emerged during the project and how were they tackled? Was
there timely identification of issues and resolution during the project
process?

One of the problems we faced was the weather – when we shot, it was very
windy meaning that any footage we got came out shakier than expected.
Along with that, the lens selection wasn’t the best as we used a 50mm on a
cropped sensor camera, meaning the footage also came in shakier than
expected.

• What did you learn from undertaking the project?

From this project, I learned that lens selection can make or break a project and
bringing a variety of lenses will always raise the chances of a decent return. I also
learned that if something doesn’t go to plan that I shouldn’t brush it under the
carpet.

• How would you rate your performance as project manager?

As a project manager, I think I did well under the circumstances we were put into. I
think that I handled the idea and concept behind the project well but failed to see
the short comings of our technical choices.

On the editing side of things, I feel as if I did a good job of cleaning up the shakiness
and putting together something worth watching from what we shot as a test run.
