ARGUMENT
(Argumento)
During October 1993, elite US soldiers, Rangers and Delta
Force, commanded by then-Colonel Charles Lewis, are sent to
Mogadishu, capital of Somalia, as part of a United Nations
peace operation: food shipments sent by the UN are
systematically robbed by the caudillos' militias (among them
Mohamed Farrah Aidid, the most powerful), who do not hesitate
to kill innocent civilians to get it. US General William F. Garrison
is in charge of the operation that, according to his advisors,
should not take more than about two weeks; Colonel Carlos
Lewis is in command of the Delta Force, but it takes longer than
it should, so the authorities in Washington D.C. They begin to
get impatient. Then a new mission emerges, carried out by the
Rangers and Delta forces of the United States: the objective is
to capture a group of guerrillas led by Aidid who promote the
state of anarchy, and with them as an exchange coupon,
negotiate the term of the de facto civil war. The mission should
not last more than 30 minutes.
When the mission begins, everything seems to be going well; a
group of UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters and OH-6 Little Bird with
members of the Delta Force and Army Rangers on board are
heading to Mogadishu, in an apparent state of calm. A spy
infiltrated on the ground points out where the characters to be
captured meet. When the forces are in flight they are detected
by children on the rooftops who transmit the information to the
rebels; These are armed with RPG rockets and machine guns
and the hornet's nest is about to explode over the Americans.
Urban warfare is a complex scenario where helicopters are
severely vulnerable to fire from buildings, especially self-
propelled grenades (RPGs); and overconfidence will play its part
in American pilots.
When one of the helicopters finishes disembarking the soldiers
ashore, a Somali militiaman shoots an RPG-7 to shoot him down.
The pilot deftly and agilely dodges it, although at the cost of the
last soldier to descend, Todd Blackburn (Orlando Bloom), falls
from the helicopter in flight. From there, the real problems
begin. One of the rebels manages to hit the Black Hawk and
knocks him down. After a Delta Force helicopter rescues the
only survivor of the incident another Black Hawk arrives to
disembark doctors and support soldiers to help possible
survivors inside the helicopter.
During the operation, the helicopter is damaged by enemy fire
and is almost knocked down by an RPG-7 but for a quick turn of
90 degrees to the left to shoot them with the helicopter's
machine gun and thus be able to escape. Instead Mike Durant's
helicopter goes, but he is hit by an RPG-7 in the process.
Initially it only suffers a little damage in the pedals but these
due to damage and instability are destroyed and crashes. With
two helicopters knocked down, the mission of entry, capture
and exit is gradually breaking down. The first convoy
successfully arrives at the US base with some of the hostages
of the mission and one casualty. On the other hand, the other
convoy receives two missions, arriving first to support their
comrades in the place of the Falcon Falcon and take them and
the rest of the hostages to the US base. It is potentially
damaged and with many casualties and serious injuries, forcing
them to return to the base. In the area of the first Falcon Fallen,
(as noted above) there are US soldiers trapped due to the great
defensive capacity of the enemy militia, stressed by the fact
that the convoy returns to the base. In the area of the second
falcon fallen the situation is catastrophically bad, a city of
militiamen and people armed only with stones and others of an
amount extended to the horizon attacks the only survivor of the
helicopter. He defends himself with only one MP5 until two
comrades arrive to guard him and wait for a rescue. The plan
does not last because the two soldiers (it should be noted that
they were snipers) are quickly killed by the militiamen and the
pilot is captured by the militia. During all this, another team of
Americans are also forced to take shelter due to the great
militia resistance and the large number of wounded. It is an
unexpected scenario that opens up in a range of serious
problems, since the militias are not only well armed, but are
confused among masses of people exacerbated by themselves,
a violent crowd eager for revenge that includes children and
women who neither understand the operation nor distinguish
between one armed man and another.
At the base, the desperate general tries to find a way to get all
his men safely out of the city, gathering men from the tenth
Pakistani mountain body to enter and besiege the city of
Mogadishu to get the soldiers out and bring them to the tenth
mountain body. Meanwhile, they are gathering in the area of the
first Falcon Falcon and there they hold a brutal and very large
offensive of hundreds of heavily armed militiamen. US soldiers
receive strong help from Delta Force helicopters which fire
Gatlin machine guns to give the Americans time to resist.
Finally the convoy arrives and rescues the survivors (along with
the fallen and wounded), which takes several hours.
After starting the escape from the city, the rangers try to enter
the Humvees but due to the large number of wounded and dead
in them they do not fit and they are forced to continue on foot
covering with the Humvees. During the flight they are
abandoned by these without warning, leaving a titanic and
exhausting struggle to get alive to the base. After surviving
armed cars, hundreds of militiamen and all kinds of weapons
and attacks, they leave the city and on the way are greeted
cheerfully by unarmed and peaceful people. Finally they arrive
at the Olympic Stadium, where the base of the tenth Pakistani
mountain body is, very dejected, tired, beaten and very weary
where they are received by friendly Pakistanis who give them
drinking water in trays full of glasses.
OPINION:
(Opinión)
I personally liked it a lot because the story is partly taken
because it happened in real life, obviously, you do not know that
in Hollywood the real life stories only have a small percentage
linked to the true story but in general I I like it very well
designed, I win Oscar in its year as best sound and finally an
American movie does not show the famous combat heroes that
the bullets do not give them, in this film everyone touches them
hard and in a very real military sense.
