 In constructing sustainable structures being innovative in engineering gives solutions in
responding to environmental challenges. Green Engineering is one of the innovative ways to do so. Green
Engineering is the use of measurement and control techniques to design, develop, and improve products,
technologies, and processes that result in environmental and economic benefits. Green Engineering is
creates big impact in the society it does not only improves the quality of life but also preserves the quality
of the environment.

The following are the Five Envision Innovations to consider when developing a project:

1. Develop a long-term sustainable energy plan

In developing a project we must consider a long-term sustainable energy plan, sustainable
energy that incorporates natural gas with supplemental purchase power agreements for renewable
energy that will provide affordable power for the surrounding community for decades to come.

This Envisioned Innovation can be implemented in the country by improving and

marketing developments in the energy research. In example, the Bio-Gab research of SLU
students of Baguio wherein, they created a biofuel from wild taro plant which is found out that is
effective as other petroleum products commonly used in cars. Taro plant is known to be
hazardous to humans and animals, but turning it to a bioethanol, it can fuel cars in a cleaner way,
and would minimize the carbon monoxide emission of burning fuel. Taro can thrive in almost any
type of soil, and is highly resistant to floods and drought, having Taro be farmed in hectares gives
jobs to people and can be a source of renewable energy. By promoting researches like this in the
country, we can attain an energy that would help improve the quality of life.

The long-term sustainable energy plan can also be achieve by strengthening the
advocacies and implementation of Department of Energy towards renewable and conventional
energy resources. Strengthening issuance of Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), a policy
mechanism requiring electric power industry participants such as generators, distribution utilities,
and suppliers to source or produce a specified fraction of the electricity they generate from
renewable energy resources. Improvements and supports for republic Act 9513 or the Renewable
Energy Act of 2008 which aims to increase the utilization of renewable energy by enhancing
national and local capabilities.

2. Clear outdated infrastructure and alleviate congested area

Enhancement of road projects and systems and by alleviating congested areas helped
bolster recreation of the community. It will address community safety and helps eliminate traffic
congestion challenges.

Localization of Intelligent Transportation System in the country is a great help in

administering safety and fixing traffic challenges. Intelligent Transportation System opens
numerous opportunities for the community such as more works to be accomplished, increase in
productivity and increase in sales. The data that will be gathered in this system can be used to
 help map out alternatives and solutions an example output would be alternative routes for
motorists in case of heavy traffic congestion and road accidents. The Department of Public Works
and Highways should strengthen the integration of traffic management systems and travel
demand management in order to use the system in the best way possible.

3. Strengthen urban centers through integrated transportation system

Integration of good quality transportation vehicles improves local circulation, supports
local development goals, strengthens urban centers, and maintains long-term sustainability
standards.

Strengthening the integration of e-vehicles in the country such as e-trikes and e-jeepneys
is a big factor in accommodating the needs of people; they would pay less the price than other
vehicles at the same minimize the carbon monoxide emission of burning fuel. The country should
also invest in the rehabilitation and improvements of MRT and LRT in order to alleviate
congested areas around metro manila. It is also good to establish new modes of transportation
through the use of commercial passenger boats that would cross around the rivers of metro
manila.

4. Recycle materials and energy

Establishing alternatives in reducing resource consumption helps the community preserve
it resources at the same time minimize cost. Having alternatives to reduce consumption in a
community does not only preserve resources but also gives as multiple possibilities and
opportunities to use things we think that are less important.

Creating of catch basin in flooded area in the country can improve the community. Catch
basin can effectively solve flood problems of a community, the stored water can also be use when
drought comes, it could also be used as water supply for public comfort rooms. Installation of
solar paneled street lights would also minimize the cost of electricity, the street light would be
charged in day and energy stored up will be used in the evening, thus, helps in conserving energy
and reduces burning of fossil fuels.

5. Repurpose projects to incorporate artistic elements and recreational capabilities

Making a project in a multiple use could bolster economy. Having projects like this
generates adjacent development, revitalization of the surrounding urban area, and even helps in
preserving areas.

Promoting adaptive reuse in the country, an appeal to real estate developers would pave
way to this envisions innovation to be implemented in the country. Heritage Conservation Society
will promote and convince real estate developers and heritage owners that they need not to
demolish old buildings in order to create new developments that are economically-viable. In fact,
incorporating built heritages enhances the added development is proven to increase market value.
An example of this is the Nielson Tower (former Manila International Air Terminal) which is
converted as the Filipinas Heritage Library. Old buildings can be transformed to be a new
character, people needs to explore and promote. By influencing others, other structures could be
repurpose even though old and transformed structures to a new level.
