INTEGRATED TRIBAL DEVELOPMENT

AGENCY (ITDA)
• There are still a number of tribal groups faced with
the threat of extinction.In order to address the above
issues in addition to other problems of
Indebtedness,land
alienation,povery,shifting,cultivationunemployment,mi
gration,inadequate housing, poor education etc,
government of India has initiated integrated tribal
development agency (ITDA) during 1971-72 with 6 plot
development projects.
• The government of AP vide G. O Ms. No. 434 has
sought to establish a single line administration in the
tribal sub plan areas by empowering ITDA.
• The ITDA has the overall responsibility of bringing
about the development of the tribals of the area by
utilizing it’s own funds from the external agencies,
funds available with the various other departments of
the government working in the sub plan areas.
• The project officer,ITDA is designed a joint
collector,additional district magistrate and additional
agent to government and has been given powers to
plan, implement, review and coordinate the activities
of all departments working in the areas.
• DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES UNDER ITDA

• The agriculture wing of the ITDA


plans,implements and monitors
the development of agriculture in
the land owned by the tribal.
• The horticulture wing looks after
the development of horticulture
and encourages the tribal to
bring their waste or degraded
land under horticulture crops like
cashew, mango etc.,
• The minor irrigation wing of the
ITDA is responsible for taking up
construction of minor irrigation
tanks, checkdams,community
irrigation wells.
• The tribal welfare engineering department
is responsible for the constructions of the
buildings for schools,hostels,offices,etc.,
construction of roads, bridges for
connecting interior villages.
• The animal husbandry section of the ITDA
ensures the supply of strong plough
bullocks for ploughing the
lands,milch,animals etc.,

• The sericulture wing helps tribals to
take up raising of mulberry crops
and rearing of Cocoons.

• The industry sector of the ITDA


encourages tribal entrepreneurs to
take up small industries that use
raw materials available in the area.
• The girijan cooperative corporation,for which the
project officer is one of the executive directors, is
responsible for the supply of daily requirements to the
tribal in the interior at nominal rates.
• The TRICOR wing (tribes cooperative finance
corporation limited,Hyderabad) of ITDA gives margin
money to the tribal at very low rate of the interest and
help the beneficiaries to purchase modern agriculture
implements tractors, electric motors and auto
rickshaws etc and for starting small scale industries.
• OBJECTIVES
• To sensitise administration to the basic problems and
needs of the tribes
• To enforce the existing laws concerning to debt relief
and povery relief of tribes
• To narrow down the gap between the development of
tribal areas and other areas.
• To restructure administrative structure in tribal areas
for effective service
