ADSL Manager Chapter 1 Overview

Chapter 1 Overview

1.1 Introduction

The iManager N2000 Fixed Network Integrated Management System (the iManager
N2000 for short) manages fixed network devices of Huawei.

ADSL Manager manages the ADSL services in the network. (ADSL stands for
asymmetrical digital subscriber line.) With the ADSL Manager, you can:
z Measure DSLAM devices, boards, port data. With the data, it becomes easier for
you to evaluate the service capacity and make decisions about capacity
expansion.
z Browse and query service and status information about the DSLAM devices in a
centralized manner. This changes the device based network management to
service based network management. In addition, customer based ADSL service
management enables you to easily find the port where a customer is located, and
obtain complete information about the customer.
z Manage ADSL services in the whole network based on ports.
z Manage ADSL services of one DSLAM device, or manage ADSL services of all
DSLAM devices in the whole network. In this way, the network management
system becomes more helpful.
In addition, the iManager N2000 also provides the ADSL Manager to manage the ADSL
ports in the network. (ADSL stands for asymmetrical digital subscriber line.)

The ADSL Manager manages the ADSL ports of these devices of Huawei:
z MA5100V1
z MA5100V2
z MA5105
z MA5300
z UA5000
As the ADSL Manager is built on the browser/server model, you can perform the
operations through a web browser. In this way, you can manage the ADSL networks
remotely.

Chapter 6 Troubleshooting

6.1 Failure to Run a Client

If a client is not running normally, do the following.
1) Check whether JDK1.3.1.07 or later is installed.
2) Check whether the NMS software is installed properly.
3) Check whether IE 5.5 or later is installed.

Note:
To check whether the NMS software is properly installed, run the NMS client, and see if you can log in to
the NMS server through the client.

6.2 Failure to Connect with a Server

If a connection failure is prompted at login, do the following.
1) Check whether the communication between the computer and the NMS server is
normal.
2) Check whether a proper server IP is entered.
3) Contact the NMS maintenance personnel to check whether the NMS server is
running normally.

6.3 Failure to Log in to a Server

If you fail to log in to the ADSL Manager interface normally, check whether the user
name and password are correct.

6.4 Failure to Connect with a Database

Modify the database configuration file “tomcat/conf/DBDeviceDef.xml”. Input the IP
address and port number of the workstation where the Sybase database is located to
the URL. For example:
<URL>jdbc:sybase:Tds:10.70.41.141:4100/DSLMgrDB?charset=iso_1</URL>
The IP address must be the same as that of the Sybase database. If a computer name
is configured for the Sybase database, you need to input the public IP address of the

computer instead of the computer name. Otherwise, the database cannot be

connected normally.

6.5 Illegal Characters on Solaris

When performing database operations on Solaris, if there are illegal characters, do
the following.
1) Check the character set in the configuration file of the tomcat database.
Find the file: tomcat/conf/DBDeviceDef.xml, and then check the URL. If the Sybase is
an English version, set the URL as
<URL>jdbc:sybase:Tds:xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:yyyy/DSLMgrDB?charset=iso_1</URL>.
Restart the tomcat. If there are still illegal characters, proceed to the next steps.
2) Log in as “sa” to the database server through isql. Execute 1>sp_configure
"def" 2>go to display the default settings of the Sybase database.
3) Check whether the “default character set id” is 170. If it is not, modify it by
executing 1>sp_configure "default character set id", 170 2>go.
4) Check whether the “default language id” is 1; If not, modify it by executing
1>sp_configure "default language id", 1 2>go.
5) Shut down the database server by executing 1>shutdown 2>go, and then
restart the database server.
