Session Plan
Session – 1
 Objective:

i) Describe the location of India.

 Content:

i) Location of India.

ii) Meaning of peninsula.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) Oxford advantage social studies textbook - Grade - 4


ii) Political map of India.

 Method:

Introduction:

i) Identify various water bodies and other countries situated around India.

Procedure:

1) Discuss with students about surroundings of India.(Water bodies and other


physical features)

ii) Teacher will ask questions - What makes the location of India unique?
How many sides are surrounded by water
bodies in total?

iii) Teacher will introduce the word “peninsula” and explain the meaning with

help of map of India.

 End:

i) Revise the meaning of word peninsula and about water bodies present in
the east, west and south of India

Session – 2

 Objective:

i) Identify neighbouring countries of India.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) Oxford advantage social studies textbook - Grade 5

 Content:

i) India’s neighbouring countries.

 Method:

i) Teacher will clarify the difference between states and capitals.

ii) Students will observe the Political map of India and try to locate neighbouring
countries of India.

iii) Talk about the countries which share their boundaries with India.

iv) Refer the content given under the heading “Location of India” in the Student’s book.

 End:

Teacher will ask question to students:


1) How many neighbouring countries do we have in total? Name them.

Session – 3

 Objective:

i) Identify various landforms present in India.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) Oxford advantage social studies textbook - Grade 5


ii) Physical map of India.

 Content:

i) Physical features of India.

 Method:

i) Discuss with students about various landforms present in India.

ii) Students will share their understanding on these landforms.

iii) Instruct students to locate and mark various physical features on Physical
map of India.(Students will locate various landforms by referring the physical
map of India given in the Student’s book. Teacher will assist students who are
not able to locate the same independently)

 End:

i) Recapitulate the task in the class by discussing the content given on


landforms under the heading “Location of India” in the Student’s book.

 Assignment:

i) Mark the physical features of Indian on the Physical map of India. (Teacher
will provide blank physical map of India to students for the same)

Session – 4
 Objective:

i) Identify and discuss states and their capitals.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) Oxford advantage social studies textbook - Grade 5


ii) Political Map of India

 Content:

i) States and capitals of India.

 Method:

i) Discuss how our country is like a very big school with large number of
people. Explain the requirement of dividing the country into different states
and capitals. Mention that capitals are the most important city of a state.

ii) Ask students to locate and mark blank Political map of India by referring
the Political map of Indian given in Student’s book.

 End:

i) Teacher will ask questions- Requirement of dividing country into states.


Meaning of capital city.

 Assignment:

i) Solve worksheet - 1 from workbook page no. - 7.


ii) Mark states and capitals on Political map of India. (Teacher will provide
blank political map of India).

Session – 5

 Objective:

i) Discuss and differentiate between states and union territories.


ii) Discuss about unity in diversity.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) Oxford advantage social studies textbook - Grade 5.

 Content:

i) Meaning of union territory and listing of union territory and there capital.

ii) Unity in diversity.

 Method:

i) Introduce the word “Union territory” and explain the meaning of the same.

ii) Students will list down the union territories and its capitals in their book /
booklet.

iii) Questions -
1) Is everyone in the country wearing same type of cloths?
2) Do everyone eat same kind of food in India?
3) Do everyone speak same language?
4) Is everyone in the class follow same religion?

iv) Teacher will then explain meaning of diversity in clothes, food, language
and so on and about unity in diversity in it.

 End:

i) Write down list of union territories and its capital in rough book.
ii) Encourage students to discuss about unity in diversity.

Session – 6

 Objective:

i) Recapitulate states and capitals of India.

 Teacher’s aid:

i) T -book.
ii) Internet connection.
iii) T.V (To display on large screen)

 Content:

i) States and capital of India.

 Method:

i) Let students participate in an interactive activity of States and Capitals


of India. (Students can refer Student’s book to answer the questions
