3-days . . . . 1.9 CEU
Reduce Hydrogen Damage. Reduce Boiler Tube Failures. Improve Unit Reliability. Minimize Corrosion Deposition. Learn the proper response when
chemical parameters are exceeded. Understand the consequences of operation while boiler and feed water chemistry limits are being exceeded.

This course is designed for fossil power plant operators and supervisors who are involved in testing feed water and boiler water and making adjustments to
chemical pumps based on their analysis. The course provides an understanding of the role of chemistry in a power plant and the effect of chemical controls
on the operation of the system.

Unit efficiency, reliability, and availability can be adversely affected by improper boiler water chemistry. The results of a multi-million dollar overhaul can be
negated during start-up due to improper boiler water chemistry. HPC instructors bring over 30 years of hands on experience to this training seminar.

B320 ASME QFO Preparation Course
4-days . . . . 2.6 CEU
ASME, at the request of the EPA and, in recognition of the needs and benefits associated with standard qualifications of operators of high capacity fossil
fuel fired plants, established the Qualifications of High Capacity Fossil Fuel Fired Operator (QFO) Committee in 1994. This committee developed and
maintains the Standards for the Qualification and Certification of High Capacity Fossil fuel Fired Plants. The standard itself does not require certification but
rather it serves as a means for complying with federal, state, and local regulations which may require operators of fossil fuel fired plants to be certified.

HPC Technical Services offers this training program for operators to prepare for the certification examination. HPC Technical Services has qualified,
licensed instructors to present a course in preparation for the certification examination. Eventually all states will mandate this QFO Certification for the
operators of fossil fuel plants, so don't wait until the last minute. Contact us to set up your QFO Certification Training for Plant Operators. Topics include:
Water and Steam Circuit • Combustion Gas Circuit • Fossil Fuel • Air Pollution Fundamentals • Boilers • Stokers • Gas Turbine w/HRSG •
Instrumentation • Electrical Systems • Turbine Generator • PM • Safety • Air Pollutants • Environmental Regulations CEMS • Particulate Control • SOx

CT307 Gas Turbine Generator Controls for Operators

3.5-days . . . . 2.3 CEU
The course discusses proper operation of a gas turbine generator from the perspective of the control room operators. (Auxiliary Operators, Shift
Supervisors, and new Engineers can gain from this presentation as well.) To operate a machine safely and for the long-term, we need to have a good
understanding of the basic theory, we need to know how different components might be placed at risk, we need to understand how the control system
"thinks", we need to know how and when the protective systems should react, and we need to know the importance of proper operation of the auxiliary
systems. With respect to the protective systems, we need to understand the symptoms of some of the common problems, what actions the operator
should (or should not) take, what actions protective systems should take, and when. This course discusses all of this in a generic fashion (that is not
necessary specific to any given machine). A good big-picture is required to become a "skilled operator" and this course takes us down that path. Topics
include: Auxiliaries • Turbine Controls • Pre start Checks • Startup • Normal Operation • Shutdown • Emergency Response • Generators

G310 Generators: Normal/Abnormal Operation

2.5-days . . . . 1.6 CEU
There are NO SMALL PROBLEMS when it comes to your GENERATOR!! Learn how modern generators work on the power system grid. Emphasis is
placed on taking the magic out of generation operations as well as dealing with normal operations and those abnormal occurrences that could happen.
Attending personnel learn what really happens in the air gap. An understanding of why and how the voltage / frequency varies is extremely important in
being able to make the "best" operating decision. The interesting part of operating a generator is that you do not know when this information is going to be
needed, and when this understanding is required there will be no time to consult the book nor call the subject matter expert. Learn what components are at
risk and how. At the course conclusion we will review 12+ abnormal conditions and for each we'll discuss how the situation can develop, what are the
symptoms, what protective relaying might exist, what are the proper actions, and if actions are not taken then what are the results. Be prepared! There are
no small problems when it comes to your generator. Topics include: Generator Theory for Non-Engineers • Power System Operations • Generator
Construction • Generator Controls • Generator Operation • Generator Abnormal Operations such as Over Temperature, Voltage Deviation, Frequency
Deviation, Loss of Excitation, Negative Phase Sequence, Field Grounds, Stator Grounds, Phase-to-Phase Faults, Accidental Energization, Motoring, and
more.

M306 Centrifugal Pumps

2-days . . . . 1.3 CEU
Open and centrifugal pump operating manual in your plant. You will probably read a statement similar to this: "This centrifugal pump will provide
completely trouble free and satisfactory service only on the condition that it is installed and operated with due care and is properly maintained." Installed
and operated with "due care"? Properly maintained? Have you (are you) following these recommendations? To know for sure, one needs to examine the
definitions of these terms as they apply to an operating centrifugal pump. This course will do so.

Then, even when one has followed O&M procedures to the best of their ability, one will often face the statement "the pump has failed; i.e. it can no longer
be kept in service". Inability to deliver the desired flow and head is just one of the most common conditions for taking a pump out of service. There are
other many conditions in which a pump, despite suffering no loss in flow or head, is considered to have failed and has to be pulled out of service as soon
as possible. These will be discussed: Seal related problems (leakages, loss of flushing, cooling • quenching systems, etc) • Pump and motor bearings
related problems (loss of lubrication • cooling, contamination of oi • abnormal noise, etc) • Leakages from pump casing • Very high noise and vibration
levels, or Driver (motor or turbine) related problems.

TG706 ADVANCED Steam Turbine Maintenance Seminar

3.5-days . . . . 2.2 CEU

Have you traveled to Power Gen International and walked down the exhibit floor? If yes, you may be (1) inudated with information and (2) not found what
you want to know relevant to your steam turbine outage. HPC has walked these exhibit too. We walked them and invited (to this seminar) only those who
have a unique of advanced message they wish to share with a group of steam turbine maintenance planners/engineers/consultants who have a definite
need. We have schedule 3.5 days of higher-level presentations by those who have experience in advanced techniques and wish to share this information.
The invitation list (of presenters has not yet gone out but we will have someone invited to discuss (for example) Brush Deals, “Topless Alignment”,
Advanced Bolting Techniques (shell and couplings), a variety of NDE topics, Vibration Analysis, automatic Balance machines, Boresonic Inspections, and
the use of strain gages for coupling alignment. Monitor our websitepage for additional information as it comes available.
