Why New Year’s resolutions? Why not Fourth of July resolutions or Grandparent’s Day resolu-
tions? (I can think of one for that—”I hereby resolve to call my Grandma more often in the coming year!”)
Coming year? Maybe that has something to do with it. New Year’s Day always feels like a fresh start. “I have-
n’t messed up yet in 2011! Maybe I’ll make that last all year long.”

God offers us a fresh start spiritually that is more important than any other resolution you could make. In He-
brews 8:10 & 12, the author quotes the prophet Jeremiah:”I will put my laws in their minds and write them on
their hearts . I will be their God and they will be my people...For I will forgive their wickedness and remember
their sins no more.” When we come to Jesus in repentance, asking Him to make us part of His kingdom, our
slate is wiped clean, forgotten as if it never happened. You only need one resolution this New Year. Resolve to
get a fresh start with God!
