case globalization on Africa.

SUMMARY OF THE ARTICLE

Globalization refers to the process of reinforcing economic, political, social and cultural relations
between countries. Globalization aimed to make ideas, cultures, values, life styles, political and socio-
economic theory universally same across the globe. Globalization is a term to illustrate that a trade is
becoming international surpassing the barriers like boundaries and culture allows free movement of
international capital through the supersonic transformation in information technology.

Historically, globalization began when Europe tries to expand their economy in America and Australia in
building of rail road systems and agriculture then supported by subsequent maturation of banking,
industrial capital and technology

The negative impact of globalization on Africa

1. Because of the formation authoritarian regimes Africa’s international negotiating power and its
ability to maneuver in the international system is reduced.
2. Strategies and policy for development is prepared by the IMF, World Bank and WTO this result
in erosion of sovereignty, especially on economic and financial matters.
3. Reinforced the economic marginalization of African economies and their dependence on a
few primary goods for which demand and prices are externally determined. This has, in
turn accentuated poverty and economic inequality as well as the ability of the vast
number of Africans to participate meaningfully in the social and political life of their countries.
4. Culture domination which result in losing of own culture.
5. Science and technology from the external diminish the development of indigenous technology.
6. Government become unable to control events in their countries this impacts negatively on the
development and consolidation of democratic governance.
7. Globalization has encouraged illicit trade in drugs, prostitution, pornography, human smuggling,
dumping of dangerous waste and depletion of the environment by unscrupulous
entrepreneurs.
8. Globalization has freed labor across boundaries and facilitated brain drain. It facilitated “brain
drain” in developing countries, thus reducing further their human capacity.

The positive impact of globalization on Africa

1. Globalization makes international trade and commerce available, allows foreign investment and
the flow of capital but it requires accountability and responsiveness of leaders to their people.
2. By defining democratic governance in narrow terms it prevents twisting of meaning by the
superiors
3. Because of the availability of international lobby, pressure groups, universities and institutions
they enable to shift behaviors of societies and state leadership as well as followership.
4. Globalization opens people’s lives to other cultures and all their creativity and to the
flow of ideas and values.
5. Information and communication technologies have eased interaction among countries and
peoples.
6. It is creating a global village out of a wide and diverse world.
7. It has made available information on how other countries are governed and the freedoms
and rights their people enjoy.
8. It has also opened African countries to intense external scrutiny and exercised pressure
for greater transparency, openness and accountability in Africa.

Possible strategies of controlling the negative effects of globalization on Africa

1. Giving priorities to empower African government in relevant aspects before imposing burden
beyond their capacity.
2. Avoiding a situation of “fait accompli” in decisions and preparing policies instead give a room
for discussion to decide on their respective aspects and improving the democratization process.
3. The African state and its forces of law needs to reinforce their ability and power to handle
international and computer-based crime.
4. Developing poverty eradication strategies domestically instead of adopting from other
countries.
5. Avoiding Debt accumulation and the debt burden
6. Though globalization creates room for free labor it aggravates the problem of brain drain in
Africa like the qualified ones ran away from their home country seeking more convenient
environment. This can be tackled if the African leadership put their house in order
