Providing promotional materials will benefit the community and clients in positive ways that will
enhance the methods in which teen dating violence is addressed, prevented, and made to be common
knowledge to youth before reaching a certain age. Although there is no guarantee that individuals will
utilize the services provided by Waypoint, the presence of promotional materials given will be a reminder
of what the mission of the organization is as well as possible options for resources in the event that dating
violence occurs. Bringing these materials into classrooms will be done in a way that doesn’t single out
one or more students but instead make them feel comfortable discussing the subject matter and share the
information received with peers and family members who may be potential or future clients. On a macro
level, community involvement will also increase awareness and success of clients who may have been in
risky situations but overcome them with the help of Waypoint.

Will more than 50% of the funds for this program/project be used for the benefit of low to
moderate income families or individuals? Yes / No

How will the success of this program/project be measured?

Although there is a hope that being present in the schools and educating the students on healthy
relationships and domestic violence will reduce the number of calls to Waypoint, having calls from
students that were given those materials will determine if the materials were effective.

Ms. Jill Hansen
Executive Director
The West Bancorporation Foundation, Inc.
West Des Moines, IA 50266

Dear Ms. Hansen:

We are writing to you on behalf of Waypoint Services based in Dubuque, Iowa. We are requesting $4,999
for teen dating violence materials to help promote Waypoint and educate highschoolers on healthy
relationships. Their mission statement is “To inspire people to move forward.” Waypoint works with
clients who have been through or are going through domestic violence situations. They have a 24/7
resource and support line, counseling services, and other resources to help people heal and go forward
with their lives.  According to the CDC, one in ten high school students has experienced physical dating
violence within a year, and Waypoint is that resource they can turn to in Dubuque [i].

When it comes to presentations or tabling at high schools, students tend to avoid going near tables
associated with domestic violence resources. With promotional materials that are intended to grasp their
attention, Waypoint is able to spread their message and contact information more easily. These materials
would include, silicone phone wallets, pens, lanyards, and buttons which are items students may be
interested in keeping, and therefore have Waypoint’s contact information from that item. Purchasing a
button maker is a sustainable way to replenish the buttons when there are low amounts without buying
them from outside sources.

It’s important to educate people on dating violence when they are younger. This can help reduce domestic
violence and rape culture in society by preparing the new generation to know the signs of unhealthy
relationships and educating them on consent. West Bancorporation Foundation focuses grants on human
services and education, which are the areas of service that waypoint provides to the Dubuque Community.
Dubuque is generally a low-income city, and materials may benefit students that may be in families with
low to moderate income.

We invite you to visit the Waypoint Services sit in Dubuque, Iowa to meet the staff and see what a
presentation may be like. Waypoint works hard to spread their mission and reduce dating violence in
highschools through presentations and tabling. The materials that Waypoint will purchase will attract the
attention of 13-19 year old students and will be beneficial to enhancing these presentations on promoting
healthy relationships and resources for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. For any questions
regarding the teen dating violence materials or Waypoint, please contact Abigail…..

Sincerely,

Krystyna Kaminski, Jocelyn Holtrop, Terrianna Black, Rebecca Heibing
