o GLOSSARY OF TECHNICAL TERMS
CONTROL SYSTEM
The control system, consisting of the Control Console,
Dimmer Bank and Dimmers and Patch Panel is designed to
meet the requirements likely to be placed on a studio of this
size. This system, moreover, has the capability Jor further
sophistication to meet future requirements. The 16 Channel
Micro-Q Control Console for example, is a flexible,
sophisticated modular system which has the capability for a
plug-in Memory Control l\,4odule should future use of this
studio require it. The Dimmer Bank, housing 16 plug-in
dimmer modules and 3 non dims provides adequate
potentialto control any normal load requirements placed on
the facility. The Patch Panel provides a convenient and
flexible means of grouping outlets to dimmers as required.
DISTRIBUTION EOUIPMENT
The distribution system of this
package consists of connector
strips and plug-in boxes which
have been located to provide
the flexibility in positioninq and
circuiting lights required to en-
sure the highest quality lighting
design and control.
KEY AND BACK LIGHTS
Key and Back Lights provide the
main source of illumination on
the subject from the front, side
and rear. The most important
lighting fixtures in the studio,
they must provide maximum
variety in beam shape and size
and be easily adjusted to meet
different liqhtinq req u irements.
Because the characteristics of
Fresnel spotlights provide this variety, Key and Back Lights
are always Fresnels. We have scheduled a number of
Quartzcolor 6" Fresnels manufactured by laniro for this
studio. These units have been especially designed for studio
use and are the most efficient and flexible Fresnel spotlights
on the market. As wilh all lights scheduled in this package,
each Fresnel is fully equipped with accessories and a lamp.
BASE AND FILL LIGHTS
.F Base and Fill Lights, commonly
referred to as "scoops" provide a
/\ soft-edged field of light which is
used to provide basic illumina-
tjon of the subject, to fill in the
W
areas not highlighted by the key
light, to iJluminate the back-
ground and to sotten shadows
caused by key lights.
CYCLORAMA LIGHTS
Cyclorama Lights are designed
to create a smooth lighting etfect
on a backdrop or cyclorama.
When individually circuited with
multiple units, provided with
color medja and controlled by
dimmers, Cyclorama Lights can
provide many possible tints and
shades through effective color
mixing thus giving subtle varia-
tions in the overall lighting design ot any set. We propose six
Quartzcolor l\4ini Cyc Lights especially designed by laniro for
low grid applications. These compact, efficient un its provide
a wide even beam for the illumination of the set or cyclorama
f rom top to bottom.
LEKOLITES'i]
Lekolites (or Pattern Projectors)
provide sharply controlled light-
ing. With the use of templates,
simple abstract patterns can be
projected on to the set tor special
effects or for adding variety and
interest to the lighting of a sub-
ject or backg round.
SPECIAL EOUIPMENT
LIGHT LIFTS provide the means to lower lights below the
normal grid height thus providing added flexibility in posi-
tion and angle.
EXTENSION CABLES provide power at special instrument
locations or when u nits are hung below the grid on lig ht lifts.
This package is not intended to represent an absolute
maximum or minimum amount of equipment req uired. lt is a
proposal based on our experience for a typical 20' x 30'
studio. Naturally, each individual studio has its own unique
features which may require unique responses. Strand
Century has developed a series of these packages so you
can find one which most closely fits your needs. To receive
