GLOSSARY OF TECHNICAL TERMS
CONTROL SYSTEM
The control system, consisting of the Control Console,
Dimmer Bank and Dimmers and Patch Panel is designed to
meet the requirements likely to be placed on a studio of this
size. Thjs system, moreover, has the capability tor lurther
sophistication to meet future requirements. The 16
Channel Micro-Q Control Console for example, is a flexible,
soph isticated modular system which has the capability tor a
plug-in Memory Control l\,4odule should future use of this
studio require it. The Dimmer Bank, housing 16 plug-in
dimmer modules and 3 non dims provides adequate
potentialto controlany normal load requirements placed on
the facility. The Patch Panel provides a convenient and
flexible means of grouping outlets to dimmers as required.
DISTRIBUTION EOUIPMENT
The distribution system of this
package consists of connector
strips and plug-in boxes which
have been located to provide
the flexibility in positioning and
circuiting Iights required to en-
sure the highest quality lighting
design and control.
KEY AND BACK LIGHTS
Key and Back Lights provide the
main source of illumination on
the subject frorn the front, side
and rear. The most important
lighting fixtures in the studio,
they must provide maximum
variety in beam shape and size
and be easily adjusted to meet
different lighting req uirements.
Because the characteristics of
Fresnel spotlights provide this variety, Key and Back Lights
are always Fresnels. We have scheduled a number of
Quartzcolor 6"and 10" Fresnels manutactured by laniro for
this studio. These units have been especially designed for
studio use and are the most efficient and flexible Fresnel
spotlights on the market. As with all lights scheduled in this
package. each Fresnel is fully equipped with accessories
and a lamp.
BASE AND FILL LIGHTS
Base and Fill Lights, commonly
referred to as "scoops" provide a
sofledged field of light which is
used to provide basic illumina-
tion of the subject, to fill in the
areas not highlighted by the key
light, to illuminate the back
ground and to soften shadows
caused by key lights.
CYCLORAMA LIGHTS
Cyclorama Lights are designed
to create a smooth lighting effect
on a backdrop or cyclorama.
When individually circuited with
multiple units, provided with
color media and controlled by
dimmers, Cyclorama Lights can
provide many possible tints and
shades through eftective color
mixing thus giving subtle varia-
tions in the overall lighting design of any set. We have
scheduled a series of one and three unit laniro Quartzcolor
Cyclorama Lights. These lights when spaced and mounted
as shown on the isometric drawing, will provide an even,
smooth illumination of the cyclorama from top to bottom.
LEKOLITESO
Lekolites (or Pattern Projectors)
provide sharply controlled light-
ing. With the use of templates,
ffi simple abstract patterns can be
projected on to the set for special
%
effects or for adding variety and
interest to the lighting of a sub-
ject or background.
SPECIAL EOUIPMENT
LIGHT LIFTS provide the means to lower lights below the
normal grid height thus providing added flexibility in posi-
tion and angle.
EXTENSION CABLES provide power at special instrument
locations or when u nits are hung below the grid on light lifts.
This package is not intended to represent an absolute
maximum or minimum amount of equipment required. lt is a
proposal based on our experience for a typical 30' x 40'
studio. Naturally, each individual studio has its own unique
features which may require unique responses. Strand
Century has developed a series oJ these packages so you
can tind one which most closely fits your needs. To receive
