Virus hits Moorabool

By Caitlin Bewley
(3rd Yr Swinburne Uni)

COVID-19 has made its way to the Moorabool Shire, beginning its path at
a local aged care facility.
The Bacchus Marsh facility, Grant Lodge, went into lockdown on
Wednesday 6 May when an employee tested positive to the coronavirus.
The employee volunteered to be tested on Saturday May 2 as part of
Djerriwarrh Health Services (DJHS) own testing program.
“[The employee] has not been at work since being tested,” a spokesperson
for DJHS told the Moorabool News.
The health care employee, when tested as part of Victoria’s testing blitz,
was asymptomatic at the time and, remains asymptomatic.
“All Grant Lodge staff members who have interacted with the infected staff
member are being tested and, sent home for isolation. The Lodge remains
in lockdown.
“All residents are being tested and their next of kin are being informed,”
the spokesperson said.
Chief Executive of DjHS, Belinda Scott, made a public statement on May 6
in a bid to “provide an update and reduce the rumours circulating.”
“We have undertaken a complete and thorough cleaning process, and all
residents have been tested as a precaution.

Police continue to work hard to apprehend burglars and car
thieves but, are urging people to take steps to reduce the risk
of becoming a victim of vehicle related theft.
People are asked to store their car keys out of sight and away
from external doors and windows, and to make sure to keep
your house/car keys on you at all times.
Police are urging people not to leave their keys unattended
in bags or lockers and not to put a tag on your keys that iden-

On a similar note, police are advising people to install good
quality locks on doors and windows of their homes and to
lock all doors and windows, even if you’re at home.
