and ‘Salam 1 Malaysia’ to the distinguished guest,

honourable judges and members of the floor.

The concept of “ 1 Malaysia, People First, Achievement Now”, was

introduced by Dato’ Sri Najib bin Tun Abdul Razak after he was appointed as
Malaysia’s sixth Prime Minister. Malaysia with its multi-racial background
under a constitutional monarchy emphasized the high spirits of patriotism and
unity among Malaysians. We have to always closely guard our country’s
safety and peace. The concept of 1 Malaysia means the existence of one big
race called “Malaysians” to replace racial policy which only push the races in
Malaysia further apart.

The races in this country should form a culture which can accept the
multi applications of custom, culture and rules practiced by certain races to
increase understanding and thus makes this concept a success. Tolerance
and respect between races is very important to produce a true Malaysian. We
have to instill good moral values at an early age mainly in being good
neighbours in the community so that 1 Malaysia can be inculcated among the
people.

Members of the floor,

We stand, think and act as Malaysians or ‘One People’, under the
concept of 1 Malaysia. It is not a new concept. In fact, it is a concept which
had been emphasized by our previous leaders. 1 Malaysia means national
unity. It is a complimentary to our country since the olden days in order to
achieve the status of a developed nation.

There are 8 factors in 1 Malaysia, mainly excellence, perseverance,

humility, acceptance, loyalty, meritocracy, education and integrity. They can
be categorising into groups. First group consists of perseverance, humility and
loyalty. Education and acceptance can be categorised into the second group
while integration, excellence and meritocracy are in the third group.
 The concept of 1 Malaysia has principles that must be accepted by all
walks of life in order for Vision 2020 and the status of a developed nation to
be achieved. For unity to blossom, we have to respect the etnic’s identity to
abide by the constitutional law, and acceptance among the races. If all these
can be done, the concept of 1 Malaysia will be comprehensive to the people
and thus bring about unity among the multi-races and religious.

Fellow Malaysians,
1 Malaysia is about firstly, the aspiration of our leader towards unity in
diversity. Secondly, harmony and prosperity for everyone. The third factor is
to respect and acknowledge the rights of every citizen as emphasized by our
beloved Prime Minister of Malaysia.

These 3 factors, mainly unity in diversity, harmony and prosperity for

everyone and respect and acknowledgement of the rights of every citizen ate
the basis in realizing it is very difficult to make the concept a success. In other
words, this concept transformed Malaysian patriotism which is care, love and
loyalty for the nation.

The hope of eradicating poverty and restructuring society has been a

successful benchmark. We have successfully eradicated poverty in many
fields. This is due to the successful involvement of many people especially our
leaders. Civil service, private sector and others.

Ladies and gentlemen,

We have to be ready to work together to ensure the success of

restructuring the society is in the same path as the concept of 1 Malaysia. We
want to have a more liberal attitude and not a narrow minded one. 1 Malaysia
is based on Federal Constitution. This means that the rights of Bumiputeras
will not affected under the Article 153.
 In conclusion, I would like to stress that as a Malaysian, we have the
responsibility to answer the government’s call for unity among the plural
society. 1 Malaysia is the basis for national unity. 1 race, 1 nation, 1 Malaysia.
