Activity 2: One of Daniel’s colleagues has asked him to recommend a film for him to
watch with his son at home at the weekend. He told Daniel that his son liked films with
animals. Daniel recommended Stuart Little. Read the film review below and complete
the chart with information from the text.
STUART L ITTLE
Stuart Little is an animated film directed by Rob Minkoff which was produced by Columbia
Pictures and released in 1999. I was nominated for the Academy Awards 2000 in the Best Effects
category. The film is set in New York City and talks about the adventures of the little mouse called
Stuart Little after he is adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Little to be their second child.
The main characters are Mr. and Mrs. Little, played by Hugh Laurie and Geena Davis, their son
George, played by Jonathan Lipnicki, and, of course, the adorable mouse Stuart, whose voice is
provided by Michael J. Fox.
The story begins when Mr. and Mrs. Little go to an orphanage to adopt a little brother for their son
George. At the orphanage they meet Stuart, a tiny mouse, and are so charmed by him that they decide to adopt him.
George, however, isn’t pleased because he would rather have a real brother. The family cat, Snowbell, along with other
cats in the neighbourhood, has plans to get rid of Stuart forever!
The cast is excellent and Michael J. Fox is perfect as the voice of Stuart Little. With the use of computer animation, Stuart
looks more like a real mouse than a cartoon mouse, convincing viewers that Stuart is a miniature actor. The combination
of computer animation and live action is superb.
Stuart Little is a wonderful film for the whole family. The cute little mouse will have all members of the family laughing in
their seats. Don’t miss it!

ADULT TRACK 4 – HELP WITH LESSONS – OBSERVATIONS
LESSON 16 – TEST 1
 Language in use (gramática e vocabulário) = 10 pontos / Total = 30 pontos*

 Language in use (gramática e vocabulário) = 10 pontos
 Comunicative writing (produção escrita) = 10 pontos / Total = 40 pontos*

por muito tempo um único objetivo, pois às vezes não sobra tempo para outros;
 Lembre-se que há sugestões de atividades no seu STUDENT’S GUIDE que podem ser feitas no livro ou no e-Campus;
onde você pode enviar uma mensagem com suas dúvidas;
ainda pratique os diálogos em voz alta;
Have a nice test!

Activity 2
2) To bring out the chocolate flavour and colour the beans are roasted.
3) A winnowing machine is used to remove the shells from the beans to leave just the cocoa nibs.
4) The cocoa nibs undergo alkalisation, usually with potassium carbonate, to develop the flavour and colour.
5) The nibs are then milled to create cocoa liquor (cocoa particles suspended in cocoa butter).
6) More than one type of bean is generally used and therefore the different beans.
7) The cocoa liquor is pressed to extract the cocoa butter leaving a solid mass called cocoa presscake. The
amount of butter extracted from the liquor is controlled by the manufacturer.
8) The cocoa butter is used in the manufacture of chocolate. Then, the cocoa presscake is broken into small
pieces.
9) Cocoa liquor is used to form chocolate through the addition of cocoa butter. Other ingredients such as
sugar, milk, emulsifying agents and cocoa butter equivalents are also added and mixed.
10) The mixture then undergoes a refining process by travelling through a series of rollers until a smooth
paste is formed.
11) The next process, conching, further develops flavour and texture.
12) The mixture is then tempered or passed through a heating, cooling and reheating process.
13) The mixture is then put into moulds or used for enrobing fillings and cooled in a cooling chamber.
14) The chocolate is then packaged for distribution to retail outlets.
