SCHOOL FOR THE POOR MUST NOT BE ANTI-POOR (columns story)

Online classes seem to be the solution of most schools in the Philippines after the implementation of
enhanced community quarantine due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Adamson University released a
memorandum that concludes the second semester without further face to face classes after April 30,
2020. However, students must submit and accomplish all the tasks given by their professors through
online or e-learning. As a student myself, I can say that it’s unfair for some of us who don’t have the
privilege to access the internet and other gadgets just for us to comply. Not everyone can submit online
requirements and do tasks in a period. There are students facing problems financially. Some students
are worried about how they are going to survive their daily lives because some of their parents are not
working and having no income. Not everyone is on their phones and worse, they don’t even have any of
these and might only rent computer shops just to go online. Also, there's no learning in online classes.
This only stresses students to pass all the requirements especially in these difficult times which all we
should think about is our safety. This is the time where people should prioritize their welfare. Once this
is all over, the academic life of the students can all go back to normal which is fair than having online
classes. SAY NO TO ONLINE CLASSES. WE ARE SCHOOL FOR THE POOR.

quarantine. Last January 31, a memorandum was released by the Office of the President with regards to
the Adamson’s precautionary measures against coronavirus. However, netizens found this action as
racist for it requires all Chinese students to observe self-quarantine for two weeks. The university
apologized for the misimpression it has created and released a new memorandum which clarified that
Chinese students and guests who don’t have travel history are allowed to come to school.
