Final Reflection

My experience was fun while it lasted due to COVID-19 interrupting everything in

everyone’s lives. Although this experience in this course lived shortly. I enjoyed it very much

even though it was the only class I had on Tuesdays and Fridays. The thing that was difficult

besides getting to campus was the speed of the class. I’m very much of a slow paced learner

when it comes to material to learn but I felt as if this class went at a fast pace. The things I’ve

learned is to always stay focused. This class moves very fast and also each week is always as

important as the next. Another thing that I learned is that taking too long on certain essays can

cause you to lag behind.

In my own writing process I’ve learned how to create ideas for a story that I am preparing

to write. Also that certain vocabulary can help me stay on track for finding the info I need that

covers the topic of what I am writing about. Many things that I’ve learned from my classmates in

writing is to always think ahead before you write a story. I believe this helps me because I like to

prepare for the story I will write. Including details that need to be included, who will be included

and also the main point which is, what I am going to talk about. A great example of this in my

portfolio will be shown in my “Education Issue” essay. I go over each detail provided and also

connect them with the main point. What this process means to me is the fact that I don’t like
leaving out crucial important details. Details in my opinion are the tiny supporting details to the

main point.

In the beginning of the course, I had basic knowledge of how the writing process goes.

Though, in this course it was taken up another level. I learned to always look for what you may

find not important to the story and also what might be the biggest point of your paper.

Eventually, I do run into problems with finding both the non important things and also what may

be important. Sometimes I have difficulty trying to figure out the main point of an article or story

because of how they could be very confusing in the structure. For example, many stories like to

juggle back and forth between certain times in the timeline. Structure like this confuses me the

most because I am used to more linear stories.

In the end, if you're writing an essay, it's for a reason. It's meant to be for an audience.

Having an audience for the things that you put on paper is very important. I learned to always

engage and be clear with your audience. You can not keep an audience if they get off track too

often. This process of learning about my audience is actually something I’ve gotten stronger

with, by keeping them entertained or even having the same related stories to them.

Finally, my future as a college student but also moving forward into the future English

classes. I feel like ENGL-1301 has helped me become more confident as to what I am reading

and how to understand what I am reading. Though, I plan on working on how to find new and

creative ways to structure my work.
