STATIONS OF THE CROSS

Opening Prayer
Antiphon. O sacred banquet, in which Christ is received, the memory of His
Passion is renewed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory given
to us.

V. Thou didst give them bread from heaven.

R. Containing in itself all sweetness.

Let us pray. O God, who under a wonderful Sacrament hast left us a memorial of
Thy Passion; grant us, we beseech Thee, so to reverence the sacred mysteries of
Thy Body and Blood, that we may ever feel within ourselves the fruit of Thy
Redemption: Thou who livest and reignest forever and ever. Amen.

1. Jesus is condemned to die.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

Adorable Jesus, it was not Pilate, it was my own sins that

condemned You to death. I pray You, by the merits of Your
sorrowful journey to Calvary, to assist my soul in its journey
towards eternity.

2. Jesus takes up His Cross.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

O Jesus, by the merits of Your Cross, grant me the grace to accept

meekly and cheerfully the difficulties in my life, that, by so doing, I
may always be ready to take up my cross and follow You.

3. Jesus falls for the First Time.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

It was for my sins, my Jesus, that you bore the heavy burden of
Your cross and fell under its weight. Let my remembrance of these
sufferings make me careful lest I fall into mortal sin.

 4. Jesus meets His Sorrowful Mother.
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

My Jesus, by the compassion that You felt for Your Mother, have
compassion on me and permit me to share in her intercession with
You. O Mary, afflicted Mother, intercede for me with your Son,
that by His sufferings, I may be saved from the wrath that is to
come.

5. Simon of Cyrene helps Jesus carry the Cross.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

O Lord Jesus, let me also bear Your Cross, let me glory in nothing
else. Let the temptations of this world be crucified to me, and I to
them. Let me not shrink from suffering, but rather rejoice to be
counted worthy of suffering for Your Name’s sake.

6. Veronica wipes the Face of Jesus.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.

O Jesus, may the remembrance of your suffering move me to

hatred for my sins and may it stir up in me a more fervent love for
You. Let the image of Your countenance be impressed upon my
mind until I am made over in Your likeness.

7. Jesus falls the Second Time.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

O my Jesus, lying prostrate again under the burden of my sins, how

often have I offended You in the past? Let me in the future rather
die than offend You again.

 8. Jesus speaks to the Holy Women of Jerusalem.
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

O Lord Jesus, I grieve for Your sufferings too and for my sins
which caused You to suffer. Let me mourn that I may be
comforted. Let me escape the awful judgment that awaits those
who reject or neglect You in this earthly life.

9. Jesus falls for the Third Time.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

Lord Jesus, I pray You by the merits of this third painful fall, to
forgive my frequent falls into sin and my slowness to rise and return
again to You. Let the remembrance of Your sufferings make me
hate my sins more and more.

10. Jesus is stripped of His garments.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

Innocent Jesus, by Your torment in being stripped of Your

clothing, help me to put off every inordinate attachment to the
things of the earth, so that I may give all my love to You Who are
all worthy of my love.

11. Jesus is nailed to the Cross.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

My crucified Jesus, bind my heart to Your cross, and let it remain

there always, never again to forsake You.

 12. Jesus dies on the Cross.
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

O Jesus, I devoutly honor that Holy Cross on which You loved me

even unto death. In that death is all my hope. From this time
forward, let me live only for You; and when I come to die, let me
die loving You alone.

13. Jesus is taken down from the Cross and laid in the arms of the
Blessed Mother.
V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

Mother of Sorrows, for the love of your Son, take me as your

servant and pray to Him on my behalf. And You, dear Jesus, Who
died for me, let me love You, let me desire You and You alone.

14. Jesus is laid in the Tomb.

V. We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee.
R. Because by Thy holy Cross, Thou hast redeemed the world.

O Jesus, lying buried in the tomb, I reverently kiss the stone that
encloses You. But, on the third day, You rose in glory. By Your
Resurrection, call me too to rise in glory on the last day to be
forever united with You.
